I got a 4.4 diesel and sold my 5.0L supercharged because I seemed to be visiting the fuel station a lot - that is definitely fixed. However having just changed the oil for the third time this year I got to wondering about the economics.Three oil changes, ad blue and the fact that petrol is cheaper than diesel also less to go wrong engine wise. And although changing the oil is pretty easy it’s not as convenient as filling up with petrol. I’m not going to do the arithmetic but it might be a close run thing on 10000 miles. I think next time I’ll be back in a petrol,5.0L, not sure about the smaller petrol engines yet even those in hybrids. Maybe I need enlightening. Geoff |

I've stepped out of a 2011 4.4 TDV8 L322 and into a new Defender 90 D350 (6 cylinder with 700Nm torque and 350bhp so less torque but more bhp) and the characteristics are similar in terms of torque but those electrically assisted twin turbos are superb on the D350 as there is NO LAG!

I’d be interested with an update as I chose petrol over diesel as also do 8k miles max per annum. So far couldn’t be happier. 2021 SVautobiography Dynamic Black ( Black wheels need to go )

I’m about to go off on a long trip for holiday, c 800 miles or thereabouts, with mixed driving. I’ll happily share the journey details when I get back. |

As promised, the outcome of my first big trip. From home to Burford, Oxfordshire and then on to St Davids, Pembrokeshire, then home. A mix of motorway, A roads and country lanes. On a motorway run the car tells me it’s doing 30-32 mpg. A Roads it suggests 22-25 mpg, and bumbling aroung lanes at < 30 mph around 19 mpg. So basically about 75% of what my old SDV8 would do, but with fuel at about 15% lower in price.

That’s about 80% of what my SDV8 said it did and not far off what the actual mpg was. That’s well worth the extra few £ in my opinion if you’re not doing 20-30k miles a year. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Have you had a chance to do some further comparison of the economics of your P525 compared to your previous SDV8? I'm doing less miles than I used to and wondering if petrol might be an option on my next one. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Gone, but not forgotten |

I can give you an idea in the 4 months I’ve owned mine which is up to 30mpg driving it like miss Daisy on cruise at 65mph, 20mpg pottering about and under 10mpg in hooligan mode.

Here’s my result from a few days away last week, trip zeroed a few miles after fill up , but this was effectively most of a full tank brimmed to almost empty . Run from Dundee over to Glencoe, then days out up to fort William, then down to oban . Only 70 dual from Dundee to Perth, rest A road with quite a lot of 50 limited sections and average speed cameras . Pretty happy tbh , from 565bhp. Average fill up is around £95 .
