Interesting vehicle

I have to admit I’m intrigued by the below vehicle:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202406180878660

The 4.4sdv8 is a pretty robust unit, despite its somewhat battered appearance and chequered MoT history at this price point it looks an interesting proposition.[/code] L322 TD6 2003

Maybe I’m missing something but it’s got an engine misfire and it’s priced at a level where I suspect they know it needs an engine.

Dealers don’t sell cars that far under value, there’s something very mechanically wrong I’d say with it.

Quite entertaining reading the reviews, either 5 stars or 1, some insightful replies from the seller.
At that price surely it will be worth more in parts if the engine is toast, go on give it a try... ( not me, too many vehicles already).

Assuming the engine is kaput, and given this is a dealer with over 100 cars for sale on Autotrader, it's fair to say they've had someone have a look at it (who's advised it needs an engine). Most likely, much more than just a misfire I'd guess...

The vehicle looks a bit battered, is out of MOT and has probably been run on a shoestring looking at it's 2023 MOT failures:

Brake performance unable to be tested due to vehicle in limp mode 'restricted performance displayed' mode when driving to brake test route (1.2.1 (g))
Rear Tyre(s) of different sizes are fitted on the same axle. (5.2.3 (b)
Engine MIL inoperative or indicates a malfunction (8.2.2.2 (g))

If this worked correctly and had a full MOT and was prepped for sale, I'd expect to pay no more than £12K for it from a dealer. I'd be guessing, but my instincts tell me this will have very little service history.

I'd guess they probably bought it for around £6K at auction, so they're most likely selling it for what they bought it for, and getting rid.

If you've a spare engine hanging around, this could be a bargain. But otherwise factor in at least £9K for a reputable engine rebuild! Shocked

Might be worth a punt if you have a spare engine for it, or have bent yours? 1992 RR Classic 3.9 efi Vogue

A lot of the 5 Star reviews are written in a very similar style with the same grammar as the responses to the the numerous 1 Star reviews, a coincidence I'm sure.
If the reviews did put you off but you still fancied buying a car from them, then 10 mins of internet stalking of the company and it's directors paints a pretty good picture of where you would stand if you were looking for a refund or tried to enforce any consumer rights.
