I killed my L322 (edit: fixed / dead battery)

Hi all,

Was fiddling about with changing the rear indicator bulbs to LEDs. Inserted the indicator bulb, seemed to be working OK with just hazards on. Didn’t start ignition.

Moved on to brake and fog - installed these. Started ignition / engine - multiple faults about rear lamps, then immediately parking brake failure, TPMS failure. All warning lights flashed up then disappeared.

Now when attempting to start, the parking light warning light flashes, the rev and Speedo needle “vibrates”, the wipers activate veeery slowly. Obviously no engine start.

Maybe my meddling has fried something. Can’t access fuse box as glove box won’t open…!

Maybe dead battery?

Edit: noticed the interior lights are very dim, and when putting hazards on (refitted the original bulbs) they dim when the lights flash. Perhaps I killed the battery? L322 2007 S/C 4.2L

On my 2003 td6, different electronics I know, I never got LED indicators to work. They were ok on hazards as that’s a decent load on the LCM but on left and right turn they flashed far too fast. Prob needed resistors etc.

Your brake lights will be LED already. Just side and fog at the rear.

I’d charge the battery fully then disconnect it for 10 or so mins to see if the car resets.

Thanks. I'll try get it jump started.

It seems all like low voltage symptoms - just tried again and error of transmission fault detected came up. Tried to start and a click noise from engine appeared which seemed like starter motor trying to get going.

Unclear how the LED bulbs could have caused the battery to discharge so quickly - short circuit perhaps? L322 2007 S/C 4.2L

I’m no electric expert so don’t know how anything could have happened, though I know it doesn’t take long for my car to throw Low Battery Start Car on the dash if I have the doors open and interior lights on for any length of time. Gone are the days of having the car radio on whilst you wash it 🤣. Maybe just that did it, but imagine you’ve done loads of stuff with doors open etc and engine not running.

They don’t like low voltage, throw all sorts of errors. Maybe the LED bulbs didn’t cause the low battery, so up to you if you try them again with a fully charged battery.

All I know about LED is some you have to turn the other way round if they don’t work and they use less power, so can throw a bulb failure message if not Canbus friendly etc.

I know there are loads of threads on the forum about them. Should be doable. I added LED side indicators to my 2011 car to match the others.

Thanks for help everyone.

It was a dead battery - jump started and driving.

I suspect the cause was leaving the doors open when swapping all the bulbs round.

However I now have a check rear light, side light and flashing yellow adaptive headlight warning. Prior to jump start I removed all LEDs and back to stock. They’re all working fine so not sure why it’s complaining.

I’ll try reset and disconnect the battery to see if that helps (unless anyone has any other ideas). L322 2007 S/C 4.2L

You can knock all the interior lights off by holding in the lights button beside the interior mirror for about 10 seconds. To resurrect them just press the switch again. Saves running down the battery when working on the car 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23
