Secret Filter that goes to nowhere....

I've noticed a few times now that this filter, shown in the picture i have borrowed from RRUK's service write up, hidden just behind the main fuel filter, seems to go off towards the cylinder head(not checked where yet) but then doesn't actually go anywhere....

You can just see the side of it next to the main filter, its plastic and is like a cheap inline fuel filter for a motorbike or suchlike that doesn't have a high fuel rate...

Does anyone know what its for and where it is meant to be plumbed into at each end at all?? Looks very dirty on mine and seems to be as dirty as the rest of the bay so i imagine its not been swapped.

I want to make sure incase i do this wading malarky that it isn't a breather filter of some sort and filtering vacum'd air, and thus turned into vacumed water.....

If you have a TD6 go out and check yours incase mr and RRUK have some wierd production run as his was a pre-facelift TD6 as well from the pictures i can see...

I am sure I read somewhere it is something like a breather filter for the gear box, I might be wrong though. Mine has it as well. It has been mentioned on here before. Reformed

If its next to the fuel filter it's a breather for the gearbox
