United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Stornoway Grey
5.0 SC Engine

Hi,

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 5.0 V8 SC engine and I have most of the parts just need to get hold of new main bearing bolts.

The physical sizes are
M10x1.25x106 and M8x1.0x99
Anyone out there that has a clue where I can get these from

Thanks
Dave

I need to rebuild my 5.0 SC Engine soon. Like the 3 cyl ecoboost engines, Ford do not want you rebuilding these engines and so do not publish torque values for mains and big ends. Instead they want to sell you complete engines.

I rebuild the 3 cyl ecoboost engines and simply reuse the existing mains and big end bolts. For both, I use 20ft/lbs plus 90°. You tend to get a 'feel' of what the ideal torque of the bolt as you tighten. Approved Engines sell engine parts for the 3 cyl ecoboost engines but do not sell mains or big end bolts, which might indicate there is no need to replace them, unlike the head bolts or crank bolts.

A long story but I did replace a piston in my 5.0 SC a little while ago and reused the big end bolts and used the above torque plus angle. The 'feel' felt right.

Turner Engineering sell the engine parts for the 5.0 SC. They do list the big ends which might indicate you should replace them. However, they do not list the mains bolts, indicating you do not have to replace them.

If you do have any torque value for the mains and big ends for the 5.0 SC I would be interested. 2010 5.0 SC Autobiography Overfinch in Bentley Silk White pearlescent, 22" Overfinch wheels with 285/35x22 tyres

The torque values are in the manual but here they are anyway

M10 Bolt Stage 1 25Nm or 18 lb-ft
M10 Bolt Stage 2 57Nm + 70 degree or 42 lb-ft +70 degree

M8 Bolt stage 1 15 Nm or 11 lb-ft
M8 Bolt Stage 2 33 Nm + 75 degree or 24 lb-ft +75 degree

I don't have any values for the side bolts sorry, I have however ordered new washers 8mm non-dowty

Good luck with that

I have a new crank, conrods and pistons with new shells.

I have ordered new oil chain and will add new cam chains etc.

Just hope all the effort is worth it.

Regards
Dave
