2003 VOGUE FADED DOOR MIRROR CASINGS

I don't know if ( but suspect) there has already been posts about this in the past but though I'd share the following.

Our 21 year old girl's mirror casings had faded badly presumably due to UV. Watched a view videos on how various owners had tackled the issue and planned to follow one person's method. As usual put it off then was in the garage and on the shelf was a bottle of UPVC cleaner which we used to clean the window frames and soffit boards; it's really good.

I tested an inconspicuous area first to see if it worked and it did; then held off for a few days to see if it lasted; it did.

I washed the casings in situ then wiped them with the solvent and they came up like brand new; two months on they still look brand new. If already in a historic thread then apologies.

I've always found you can restore a lot of faded plastic with a heat gun. Don't go mad though or you'll warp it.

Someone on Youtube as an example.

Hi Andy,

Did see a video of that and notwithstanding I no longer have a heat gun, when we did have one SWMBO wasn't best pleased with the damage I caused to the staircase spindles. Was never going to make a surgeon Smile

Cheers

Ha, yes, I've ended up damaging stuff and chucking it away, but I'll give anything a go.

I just totally lack talent and my superpower is for stuff to just fall apart in my hands with no effort at all.
