In the next few months I’m going to be looking to buy a 2014-16 l405 ,now I already have a gap tool (g3) and was wondering if it’s compatible with the l405 or do,I have to get a newer one.also I am right thinking that all l405 from 2013 onwards are the 4.4 sdv8 engines I only ask as I see some down as tdv8

Hi Will,

Welcome to the club (soon) - I believe the GAP tool is compatible across the LR range and all you will need is to add a new vin to the tool to allow full use.

You can buy that from GAP themselves and I think the cost was around £80 to add a new vehicle.

If you don;t add the vin, you can still use the tool to read fault codes and clear them (I think) but you don't get the full suite of options or ability to change any settings.

It's only for 2017-on models that the G3 is unable to flash some ECUs

Is there a definitive list of what the G4 can do over the G3 on MY17 onwards?
