Centre cup holder springing open.

Hi, my recently purchased 03 SE has a minor but irritating problem. The sprung loaded cup holder fitted to the centre console keep popping open. It seems to have a rather flimsy catch and will often spring open if I open or close the centre cubby or knock anything in the vicinity. Is there any way of adjusting the mechanism to tighten it up? No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

I have this problem allthough I have not got around to fixing it yet. Had a quick look and it appears there is some sort of plastic catch inside that may have slightly bent back so it does not hold it secure. Reformed

Have searched for answers in various places to no avail. Don't want to try to take it apart just yet as it is bearable. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

i think it matters how much its used/abused...it just needs someone to lean against it and it'll be knackered...

I have noticed if you squeeze the sides of the console in a bit it does hold it in place better, so it would appear to be a rather weak catch thingy lol. May have a go at doing something about it next week, will let you know if I get round to it. Just thought I would post here first in case anyone has already solved this. Thanks for replys. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

That's just it, I don't really use it myself but it pops open frequently. I guess the previous user was a keen drinker Smile I don't really want to get too heavy handed in case I break it. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Just wondered if anybody had come up with a solution, got the same problem.
Previous owner solved it by screwing a long self tapping screw into the top of the cup holder from inside the glove box. It doesn't open at all now - unless you have a screwdriver with you. Very Happy
Hopefully I can do better.

I gave up after fiddling for a while. Maybe if I could get the whole mechanism out I could try to sort it, but that would mean unbolting the centre console I guess. I have learnt to live with it for the time being. Shame really, I started this thread but I have done Censored all about it. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

I have the same problem. When I bought the car, I discovered it was held shut with what looked like black Blu-tack. Once I managed to get it open, it wouldn't shut. Now and again it will close, but like you say, a bang to the centre console will pop it open.
It does double as a good phone holder though! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Australia 2008 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Rimini Red

I have a fix for this one , mine suddenly would not shut yesterday and no amount of prodding or pushing would get it to click closed so I stuffed a piece of folded paper down the side and that gave me an idea .
Popped into Ikea and bought a packet of those felt stickers you put on chair legs to stop them scratching the floor , and now all is good again it just takes a slight tug after the click to open the cup holder Thumbs Up
