We've recently bought a 4.2 Supercharged fatty after haveing an M62 4.4 V8 for 14 years. Last week our local mechanic gave it a service but on trying to get two of the spark plugs out found that they felt a bit 'rubbery' when trying to get them out, so to save any damage has left the spark plugs.
Its running fine, but are there any tips or tricks that can be done to get the plugs out safely?

I did read that you need to get the engine really hot to get out any 'sticky' plugs on the Jaguar engine, is this correct?

Any advice appreciated.

You've suggested yourself what I was going to say! They come out much easier from a hot cylinder head than a cold one.

If really stubborn, you could try a small squirt of penetrating oil down the spark plug hole, but only once they're cracked off half a turn. Pen oil won't be any good, unless you've got them slightly started due to the gas tight seal formed by the plugs' washer!

If they start but get very tight on way out, try the pen oil, but also work the plug in and out, don't just carry on getting it out, go back and forth, that can save the threads being punished too much.
