Short answer, yes! Due to the short trips you are at much greater risk of oil dilution. I too now only do approx 5k miles per year and shorter trips and I personally change the oil and at least once between annual service, so easy to do yourself, even if you are not very handy with the spanners, and relatively cheap. _______________________________________________

I always use a Mahle brand filter and 5W 30 C1 engine oil although there could be some debate amongst some to be using 5W 40 for higher mileage engines. Personally I stick with the 5W 30 C1. If search this site you will find many, many posts about this and where to get oil & filter from. _______________________________________________

As recommended by others on here I've been using this since I got my L405.

I'm like Timmy, actually may do a few more miles but lots of short journeys so there's a risk of oil dilution (a very small risk IMHO). I get my car serviced with an Indie in November and I do a quick oil change at the halfway point. Just done it in fact, using the draper pump and oil from Smith and Allen and the filter from eBay actually. I might just get the whole lot from Opie next time as it's simpler. An oil change is cheaper than a tank of diesel so it's pretty much a "no brainer" as they say. Geoff |
