Afternoon all,

I once again come to this knowledge base for some assistance.

I was doing the first oil change in my ownership of the car (bought in Feb) as it was last serviced in Nov 2023 and come across this broken pipe.

Quick update, turns out I had some old tubing and mace managed to seal it back up and reconnect it. Much easier than expected… result.

Though I’m still curious what it was/does and what it’d have affected. Looks like a vacuum line and I’ve seen about it controlling something to do with the manifold? Interested to hear your thoughts. 2009 facelift L322 3.6 TDV8 - Buckingham Blue

To continue, and close, this thread of me having a conversation with myself...

Having repaired the pipe/line with a bit of tubing and tape, it's clear that it was indeed a vacuum line. A notable improvement seen is that in the brake pedal. I used to have a fair bit of travel here, thought it needed bleeding but the fluid was almost new.

Turns out it must be vacuum assisted somewhere as the pedal's never felt better! Happy days. 2009 facelift L322 3.6 TDV8 - Buckingham Blue

Glad you got it sorted. I'm trying to source something similar with my brakes.

I believe the vaccum line in question operates the actuator which operates the 'manifold tuning valves' within the intake.

Your brakes are servo assisted using the engines vaccum so in fixing the pipe you have restored optimal vaccum in the system hence the improved brake pedal feel

You may well have a vacuum pipe loose somewhere then, fingers crossed it’s an easy one like mine. My symptoms were a fair bit of travel in the brake pedal but had normal braking performance, if that makes sense. A few presses after repairing the pipe gave it the consistent, firm feel I was expecting  2009 facelift L322 3.6 TDV8 - Buckingham Blue
