United Kingdom 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Santorini Black

If it can get me to Manchester and back in all weathers (460 miles) without out having to “fill up”, just like my 5.0S/C, then I’ll have one.

But if I am going to spend north of £150,000, then I’m Censored if I’m going to sit in some miserable, windswept MSA for over an hour recharging.

If I pay for luxury, I want luxury.

I imagine it would be capable of around 250 miles on a motorway, which would get you to Manchester. You wouldn't turn straight back, right? So, you'd have it charged for your return. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

If you can get to Manchester / travel 240 miles without a toilet stop, then I envy you! Laughing

If you can charge at the other end then no issue, if not, it won’t need stops of an hour. Better to do shorter charges when you stop for a break anyway, as it chargers faster. My wife has an EV that I use a couple of times a month and I’ve seen 900+ miles per hour on a fast charger and a 15 min toilet / coffee stop adds at least 180 miles of range.

Having said all that, there’s no way I’d buy an EV Range Rover. Weight + brick like aerodynamics will not make a particularly good EV. To get reasonable range the battery needs to be huge, which adds more weight, which reduces efficient and range….and around you go. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Exactly that on EVs! Debunking the myths (I also have an EV).

My thinking though was because the car isn't lugging around a 6 or 8 cylinder engine, a ginormous high and low range 8 speed transmission, two diffs and a transfer box, the weight could be relatively comparable.

I'd be interested to see how they manage more than 2 miles/kwh from one though!

I think the electric Range Rover will largely be geared as a limousine or for executive travel, low emissions zones etc? You don't buy a Range Rover for economy, and many of us use ours for towing, which electric cars are currently hopeless at. The closest current comparison really is the Mercedes EQC ‐ the range drops by around 60% when towing a medium load. You can probably only expect 60-80 miles towing a larger load, which makes the thing pretty useless in that respect. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Slightly OT but what a lot of folks don’t appreciate about EV’s is, the faster you charge them, the shorter the battery life, so you should always charge at home/overnight if possible, never using “high speed” charging. This can reduce Li-Ion battery lifetime by up to 50%, and replacing batteries is a significant cost, not usually quoted in the price list or sales brochure. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Oh dear - I wish people would do their research before posting this stuff 🙄🙄

DC fast charging has been proven by independent statistical studies and also from Teslas aggregated telemetry data (one of the largest EV datasets) to have neglible affect of battery health.

0.30 cD is pretty good for a wide and tall car, weight isn’t necessarily a big EV issue (still don’t want one, though).

Yes, it’s good for the size / type of vehicle, but is still a brick relative to other EVs MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Yes, they don’t allow maximum charge all the way through to protect battery life, probably only max charge in the middle 20-30%. One of the reasons a couple of quick charges is better than one long one on decent length journeys. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid
