Long time lurker on here, first time poster. Just driven my L405 V8 Diesel down from England to the South of Spain, didn't miss a beat on the way down and was a pleasure to drive that distance honestly.

However having been here about a month, I've noticed the air conditioning isn't blowing as cold as it was at first. Actually from the front vents, only one (central left) is blowing ice cold, the rest are just cold(ish). It's just on the border of acceptable, but not getting better.

This is a problem as it's about 30c most days and I have a large dog in the boot of the car. Obviously we've been blasting the air conditioning to keep things cool for him on the drives, as well as when sitting in traffic or waiting outside supermarkets and shops with him in the back so it's my thought that it's just rundown due to the almost constant use.

My question is, what is the process to have the car regassed? Is it okay to take it to any mechanic to have this done? Or is it best left to a LR specialist? I am hoping it's just a case of having it regassed, but also sort of prepared that it could be a radiator leak.

Any help much appreciated.

My AC had similar symptoms; I have done the regas/recharge at local service & AC is working super cold following the regas/recharge.

In my opinion, this is a very simple case of regas/recharge & can be done by a garage offering this service. Typically, it takes around 45 mins & the entire process is automated. The regas/recharge machine extracts all remaining gas from the system and inserts the exact quantity required. Typically regas/recharge ports (with pale green caps) under the bonnet are on right hand side, i.e. inside of DPF fluid port.

Also, you will find the a plate (in picture) under the bonnet, mentioning exact Gas type and exact quantity required for the system in your RR. Gas type R1234yf recharge costs are around ~£110 whereas Gas type R134a is around ~£60.

You need someone who can refill R1234yf gas...

Classic symptoms of low gas though...

Any garage can do it, we had our villa car done earlier in the year, they all tend to do it down there, just need the right gas... It will say on the yellow sticker on the bonnet slam panel which yours has but I think all 405's are the same...

And you will be delighted to hear it's three to four times the cost of the cheaper gas, around £120 in the UK...

You need to ask if the garage recharges with R1234yf and not a much cheaper 'hydrocarbon replacement' that is a mix of butane and propane. The cost is around 4:1 so garages will undoubtedly be tempted to put in the lighter fuel and charge R1234yf prices. Ask to see the white cylinder with red R1234yf written on it.

R1234yf brands are either are National or Honeywell and this will be painted onto the cylinder. Its a Honeywell/Du Pont patented gas so the suppliers are restricted keeping its price nice and high.

Appreciate all the advice, thanks for that! Will definitely check that the garage is to put R1234yf in there and will ask to see the bottle to confirm. Will get this done hopefully tomorrow, thanks again everyone!
