Best alternator brand for L405 2017 3.0 diesel

Hi folks

Battery was flat after a month abroad.

AA chap said my battery is healthy but told me my alternator was playing up based on his tests.

Might also explain the intermittent HDC fault/service light that pops up 20% of the time .

Any advice on the best brand alternator?

thanks

If you are getting HDC Faults and the battery is not charging - Please, please, please check your ground/earth straps. The alternator may be fine or a bit stressed because of a bad 'earth'. The Earth points live behind the front wheel arch liners and if you are in a climate that uses salt on the roads... they will get eaten alive.

This is my L322 - but a similar issue. I went through 3 starters and 2 alternators in 6 months along with random cascading faults. My Indy said they would not replace a 4th starter under warranty - because my drivetrain was not grounded to the body/battery. I ran a ground lead from an old Jeep project from the lug under the bonnet down to a mounting bolt on the starter. The alternator produces the most current - the starter requires the most. My current battery says production date of 10/18 and same starter/alternator for 6 years. Also got rid of the random cascading faults.
These things have a million sensors and they all work off of a 'signal voltage' - if the signal is wrong - faults start cascading...

You can have all the juice in the world, but if the circuit is not complete... it will do no good.
