mileage on second hand Range Rovers

Hi all

just looking to purchase my first Range Rover and was wondering if you could help with a couple of questions. as i have discussed on other topics I am between TD6 and 4.4 V8 with LPG which i am edging towards more now. We occasionally need to tow a horse trailer with it.

I am looking for a vogue 2002-2005 probably for the money we are looking to spend and want to purchase from the trade rather than private so as i could get some form of warranty. i know it probably sounds really girly or strange but i want a Black one with sand/cream leather also just to be awkward!

My issue around mileage is should i spend about 5k more for half the mileage (50k instead of 100k) both have FSH and pretty much similar spec i can make out from my untrained eye reading the spec. Or should i go higher mileage but i have concerns with things not lasting as long. Both cars are the same year and i will get the LPG work done in addition to this as i have had a company recommended to me(not sure even if they would convert a car with this amount of miles on will have to check)

thanks in advance to any replies !

depends on how long you intend to keep it. If its for a few years I would spend the extra and get the half mileage vehicle - repair costs will be less.

If you are just dipping your toes into RR ownership and are only contemplating or regularly change your vehicles every 6 to 12 months then go the cheapest option - you will be less exposed to the biggest cost of RR ownership - depreciation Shocked

and welcome Thumbs Up

To be honest, if it's been maintained well and is in good all round condition, then I say mileage shouldn't be an issue. Mine (that is for sale although not to your specific spec) is a 2003 V8 with 96k and I haven't had any issues.

I've just bought a 2006 Merc. CLS with 110k and it's in perfect mechanical condition and absolutely pristine inside and out, again, it has a full and concise history.

I say save some money and go for the higher mileage car. 2006 Mercedes CLS
1991 Retro-style Mini
But really finding it hard to fight the urge for a S/C...

I was the same with the black and cream leather interior. When I brought mine I went more on condition and history than mileage. I think as long as its been looked after and serviced regulary it should be ok Reformed

One thing to keep in mind is that unless your going to do very high milage's it will take a long time to brake even with an LPG conversion. Over here may have to 80 - 100,000 kms before you start saving with LPG. Could be better off spending that money on petrol. If it already has LPG then thats a bonus. But dont forget you will have to probably put spare wheel somewhere else. If going to change cars over not worth the effort.

Me I went for a TD6. Very happy.

Have you driven the Td6 and the V8 yet?

I loved my Td6 in general, but never really felt the Td6 was the right engine for the vehicle due to the excessive fan noise when hot, general engine noise and lack of pace. It's a good engine in it's own right, but it's not up to the standard of the rest of the Range Rover package IMO.

Personally mileage has never really bothered me. As long as the car is over 50/60K I consider it to be "safe" as that's when most of the major components fail if they are going to.

If you make it to 100K then you are on the home straight really...

Coming from a history of 'fast' cars, I was a little concerned about the TD6 'lack of guts' but my TD6 actually seems quite quick Shocked Shocked especially off the mark Shocked Shocked I had it in for a service at my local LR specialist and even he commented on it. As far as I am aware, its fully standard, no modifications etc but often when I read about others concerns, I just cant see them.

Maybe the whole LR feel has changed me into a different driver Whistle Whistle

BTW back to topic - had my TD6 2 yrs, 120k on the clock, FSH and, for me, only feels like its just been run in Thumbs Up

The service history is key for me, if it has a comprehensive one, go with the cheaper option. Your choice, either way, if its your first, you're going to be VERY happy Thumbs Up

The 0-60mph time should be between 12.5 and 13 seconds I believe. That's flat out with the engine roaring away.
That should give you a good idea if it's previously been "tweaked".

2003 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Adriatic Blue

The gearbox on the TD6 seems to go at around 100k. Mine has 126k on and the engine is sweet- new gearbox at 110k.
May be worth checking out if you go diesel. Range Rover TD6 Vogue Adriatic Blue

England 2002 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black

My TD6 has done 132k and I changed the gearbox oil and filters 2k ago and the box is as sweet as a nut ! The oil that came out was nearly black but there was no magnetic debris on the pan magnet and to be sure on the fluid I dropped and changed it again 2 weeks ago to get more of the old oil out.It came out nice and red though so I am not expecting any issues - mind you though the vehicle has never towed and I don't rag it around nor use the 'shift tronic' side of the box Wink
