United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Santorini Black
Help please - vibration and oil smell

Hi

Appreciate it’s difficult to diagnose most issues blind but hoping to at least get a steer from any fellow members who read this and have had something similar.

The car is a 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 with a good history, 87000 miles and in excellent condition throughout.

I have a vibration that is felt through the floor by my feet and can be felt through the steering also albeit less obviously. It’s most noticeable when accelerating from very low speeds (under load) and pretty much disappears at speeds above 50/60 mph. If I take my foot off the accelerator the vibration all but disappears also. My suspicion is prop shaft bearing due to the nature of the vibration. It’s quite recent (within last 500 miles or so) and is a high frequency vibration.

Assuming it is the bearing can this be replaced as the specialist who looks after my car has previously mentioned during a general discussion that if asked to replace the bearing he refuses and advises it’s best to replace the whole assembly. This was an unrelated conversation a year or so ago discussing weak points on the car.

I get a smell of oil every time I drive the car noticeable when I park and get out of the car. It smells quite strong near the front grill area. The car uses no oil and I don’t get any drips. The specialist had a good look over the car a few thousand miles ago and commented how clean it all was and how dry everything was. It recently had a mot and the local mechanic showed me signs of oil seepage around the passenger side engine area quite high up which looked like the turbo oil feed area. There is a small amount of oil residue at the back of the engine/gearbox which may be from a small drip that gets burned off before dripping.

The oil cooler gaskets were replaced a couple of years ago as part of an investigation into the smell of oil, this was prior to my purchasing the car.

Is it worth having the turbo oil feed pipes replacing along with a OEM oil cooler or is it more likely to be the 2 o rings I have read about on here?

Finally! I have a slight screeching from the front which I assume is a tensioner. If I have the aux belt replaced which tensioners should be replaced and is there anything else worth doing at the same time?

I am going to keep the car as it’s so tidy so really want to fix the vibration, smell of oil and screech.

Thanks in advance. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Santorini black ivory leather
