For some time, probably 18 months I have been looking on and off for another Supercharged to replaced my 4.4. Since new year a friend of mine has been trying to buy the 4.4 M62 as a tow vehicle this came to ahead when he borrowed the old girl to collect a new trailer and didn't want to give her back. Although tired, she was a loveable rogue and I eventually gave in and sold her in June - the new owner is pleased. Anyway, with my range rover now sold I started a search in earnest and viewed several. I was disappointed in all of them to be honest looking between £4,000 and £10,000 I even ended up looking at 4.4 TDV8's and whilst I like the idea of them, for me a Range Rover should have a petrol V8 and nothing else. A supercharged it had to be.

I had originally decided that I didn't want a black car or a black interior, but here we are with a black on black car however it is a 2007MY with the much improved interior, terrain response and electronic park brake etc. Which I think helps vs the earlier interior.














I went to view the car a couple of weeks ago but there was some paint defects after a repair which the original repairer had agreed to correct - currently it looks OK although the car needs a good polish and detail to improve its appearance although it looks fairly good from a few paces. Currently there are a few little jobs, one of which is the TPMS does not work properly. I believe the sensors have been replaced and I have corrected the tyre pressures but it still won't clear the fault "check all tyre pressures" I would like to get the feature disabled once I can find someone with the correct software. The other main problem is an intermittent o2 sensor fault which I am keeping track of. Some other niggles, whilst the reverse camera works (!!) the angle is strange I feel that someone has replaced it with an aftermarket one, the brakes seem a little noisy and a little lacking in power I plan to replace the front discs and pads +fluid change and there are a few cosmetic issues both inside and out but its by far the best car I viewed in the 4-10k price bracket!







We used it over the weekend, and those trips and the journey home were all good and the car drove really well with plenty of power - just like my old Supercharged of which it is identical apart from the color. 2005 E60 M5

Haha, well I'll see how long it keeps going! I always regret selling your old one but I had to at the time to buy the M5, which I still have. However looking through the state of many of the cars on the market it makes me realise just how good that Tonga Green one was.

Although, and something I had to keep reminding my self, it had been 5 years since I bought that one and that is a long time for a car!

Actually I have bought this one to try and keep it nice - driving an EV every day has made me realise cars like the supercharged V8 Range Rover are not long for this world and the 4.2 S/C I believe to be a pivotal moment for Land Rover history in that for the first time they had given it the power that the aftermarket boys had always tried to (overfinch for example) and it has spawned now 17 years of various Supercharged V8 cars with increasing power and performance. This one will never be a collectors item but I think they will become quite sought after one day along with the V10 M5. 2005 E60 M5

I'm nearly two weeks into ownership now and I'm starting to work through the issues. Mainly minor but I have ordered some bits.

A rear light is cracked so I've bought a good pair of supercharged lights and I will swap one or both of them when I get a minute.
I've ordered a new navigation disk, although it still doesn't have a major road near us that opened in 2015 so I need to get onto the supplier as its supposed to be a 2018 map!
Filled up the DVD changer - that is working well although I've not messed with the headphones yet
Ordered some pollen and air filters for it - I will fit these my self but probably get a garage to change the oil on it just for the mess. I may well get the brake fluid changed at the same time.
I've ordered a rear o2 sensor as that has consistently been the problem one indicated by my diagnostics with either no response or slow response as the codes so it looks as if that is the problem and cause of the EML

I found a few minutes the other day to fit the new air filter and pollen filter. Oil change stuff is in the post. The filters I removed were almost new to be honest but fresh ones can't hurt.

I've also booked the car in for its brake hose recall which it somehow hasn't had after its many years on the road. The Landrover dealer assures me if they break it they will fix it as it currently stops just fine.

It will be interesting to see what they say about it when its on the ramp!

I have also purchased an IID tool which its on its way to me and the O2 sensor has arrived which I need to get fitted - I don't think I'll be able to do it my self just for the effort needed to remove the old one! 2005 E60 M5

I'm sure you're very aware of the need to be super vigilant with the Main Dealers. I have dealt with just 4 so far and each of them resorted to obvious lies and silliness at some stage. Thanks Mike, yes its a worry which is why I've asked what happens if something breaks when they try and do the brake lines he categorically said over the phone that if they break it they will fix it as I've said this is a safety related recall and so needs doing - I don't know if the lines on it are the originals etc.

I am going to wait with the patient (mainly as there are no loan vehicles for 9 weeks) but I can work from the waiting area whilst waiting.

To be honest I would ask them to service it if they were not so greedy. BMW as you probably know offered reduced prices for older vehicles but when I asked LR for an oil change on your old car they wanted £570 to change that and the pollen filter! 2005 E60 M5

The real crunch is once they have your car things get difficult to be categoric about. I've been told stuff needs doing, that doesn't; it should be like that, when it clearly shouldn't; stuff has been done, that hasn't; and stuff hasn't been done, that has. Since you're not allowed anywhere near the car while they have it - in my nearest MD they actually take it to another site from the service reception - you're entirely reliant on their honesty, which is why when I catch them out once I never return. The Tonga car never saw a MD in my 5 years as I found a great Indie in West Somerset Landrover - sadly ceased trading - and then Blackdown 4x4. But it never went wrong either. The others have all suffered from MD blues and so I'm delighted to have found C-T-Craig on here so I know its being looked after right. That's a 90min drive for me ...but somewhat further for you! Mike - MPx

Not trusting main dealers to do work for us was the main reason we built our workshop and put a ramp in it.

They're disgraceful the way they treat customers.

My sisters Evoque was in the dealer recently for a warranty claim. They told us it needed discs and pads so we authorised it.

When we went to collect it they handed her a bill for hundreds and hundreds of pounds for fitting front and rear discs and pads. I went out to have a look at the car and sure enough the discs and pads were new.

I went back in and thanked them for doing the work but pointed out that we'd not be paying for them seeing as they had been changed by the same dealer less then 6 months previously and that they'd be covered under the parts warranty if they did indeed need changing.

Haha thanks guys, fingers crossed its not a disaster! Mike yes Craig will be a 4-5 hour drive from me I expect if not more. There are few specialists near here and the ones there are seem to like hitting defenders with hammers but anything more advanced than an electric window switch should be viewed with suspicion!

I'll add a short update, the IID tool arrived and it was fairly painless to get registered over to me. I was surprised at how much I could do without it being unlocked for the car. The first job was to disable the TPMS - praise the lord its gone. I should have probably had a go at fixing it but having done some research that it could have been 1 or all of the sensors or the module its self I figured it was just easy to invest the money in an IID tool for me and the future and just disable it.

Having purchased a new o2 sensor for the car I thought I had better look underneath - turns out the sensor I have bought to replace has already been replaced which was something of a surprise. I'm not sure on the quality of the fitted part BUT what I did notice was that the connector was not clipped up properly and didn't look quite "plugged in" which I know sounds insane but having unplugged and replugged it looks much more like it should to be - could it be that simple?!

I then cleared the faults and reset engine adaptations and started the car up. The stumble when cold seems much much better and after two starts no fault has returned from the PCM where as before it was reporting low or no voltage from the o2 sensor (bank 1 sensor 2). I will drive the car later in the week to see if it stays fixed - the dash doesn't half look dark with those two yellow lights missing! 2005 E60 M5

What a lovely car and you’ve chosen well . On our RRS1 I’ve just polished the headlights after age has taken its toll. I purchased an Autoglym kit and it lay unused in the garage for nearly a year. Last week I decided to have a go and they’ve come up crystal clear, I should have done it ages ago and it’s made such a difference to the car.

Thank you, it will be nice one day! There is an issue with each light, at some point someone has put the wrong sidelight bulbs in and appears to have damaged them slightly so I am casually on the lookout for a replacement pair. The AFS system currently works fine which is a bit of an unknown but if I can find a good pair that I can refurb before they go on the car that would be a bonus. My best friend runs a bodyshop and generally does the machine polishing on cars for me, he did the ceramic coat on the M5 but I doubt I will go that far with the Range Rover - it won't go in his garage at home is the main issue!

The interior needs a good valet and I have been given a card for a mobile guy who is well regarded so I plan to give him a call very soon and get him in to give it a good clean and see what it looks like. The leather is a bit tired and scuffed in places, which isn't surprising and it will be a balance to see what can be achieved there.

The main issue with it is if I make it nice then I won't want to use it with the kids etc!

New oil filter came the other day (genuine!) and a new "genuine" Supercharged badge - I'm 99% sure it is not genuine and is infact the same as the powerful badges which are half the cost. 2005 E60 M5

I found a few minutes yesterday to swap the damaged taillight, annoyingly the "mint" set of lights I had bought were average to good at best. I'm not sure they were the pair in the picture as one of them had bird muck on it!

Anyway, it wasn't cracked and I gave it a good clean up and it looks much better than the original. An extremely easy job, and very satisfying.
