Stuck rear wheel after being parked 5 months

Hey guys,

After being parked for about 5 months, my 2010 L322 3.6 TDV8 have a stuck rear wheel that won't rotate.
When I parked the car I left the parking brake off (wise from experience) and then disconnected the battery.
Based on that I thought that the pads were sticking to the disc but they are not, I've removed them and the disc still won't turn.
I can't really understand how the parking brake shoes could be stuck when it was left off?
At this point I cannot turn nor remove the disc from the hub to investigate further...
I would really appreciate any thoughts and ideas on how to solve this.

With the wheel off, just give the centre of the hub a hit with a hammer a few times. This should release stuck handbrake shoes.

I tried driving the car forwards and backwards, but as it's parked on gravel, the wheel just drags and creates a rather impressive hole in the ground Confused
And yes, I did try to "pursuade" the hub with a hammer but with no effect whatsoever.
I'm not very familiar with the L322 to be honest, could it be that the electronic parking brake is actually engaged, and is there a way to manually de-activate it?
When I use the parking brake lever in the car, I can hear a "motor" buzzing briefly but I don't know if it is just working on the left rear wheel which is not stuck.

You could also try spraying some brake cleaner through the wheel onto the disc, caliper and pads, to help eat away some of the rust build up. It might make it easier for the wheel to un-seize. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Hi Gary,
It's not the caliper and pads that are stuck, it's the internal parking brake. Which is really weird to me, as the car was parked with the parking brake OFF (to prevent this from happening...).
The caliper and pads are off the car now and the disc is still stuck and cannot be removed from hub just as if the brake shoes are holding it firmly in place.

Sounds like the handbrake shoes have stuck to the drum and the activator is not winding in, there's probably a lip on the drum itself through wear after all the in use time which doesn't help things and a build up of crud in the hub itself.

Apply heat to the drum, WD40 to the contact points on the hub and a few wacks with a large hammer around the hub should free it up. Failing that your into hub pulling territory followed by replacement of the shoes, springs etc with new to avoid it happening again and clean everything thoroughly.

The actuator is probably just stuck and exercising it should free it off. Fuji White / Jet 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

On a car with a manual gearbox you can generaly free them using some very agressive clutch actions but on an automatic you won't generate enough shock to free it and the diff will just not transfer any load to the wheel if you try drving it. With the wheel and caliper off some heavy blows with a lump hammer to the edge of the disk is your only real option using a bit of hard wood to protect the disk surface or accept you will be replacing the disks due to the damage getting them off. There is not much gap between the shoes and inner surface on a handbrake so it doesn't take much condensation to create a rust bond. AFAIK there is a feature on teh GAP tool to fully retract the shoes for disk removal and if anybody is leaving a vehicle stood for a long time it's maybe wise to engage this. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Isn't there a cable behind the inside right boot cover that you have to pull? It's like a loop of wire poking through a hole.

Thank you all for your inputs, I will update on the progress when I have tried some more.
Regarding the wire in the boot, I think that it is more for emergency use like when towing and you don't have battery power to release the parking brake? My issue seems to be mechanical, but if nothing else works I will pull the cable and see what happens.

Update:
The wheel freed off almost immediately after coming off the gravel and onto the asphalt. I have now disassembled the disc and checked the brake shoes and all is well.
I guess it just proves that cars are better off when driven regularly.
