Dodgy Garages

Hi, not mentioning any names as I don't know the legal implications on naming names but went to change the alloys today and noticed after the last brake service this little surprise.

Spot the difference,

Andy

We have a winner,

Seems when they changed the discs they simply didn't fit it. But I can't work out why it was removed in the first place.

I’m not up on legal implications, but they like to be named when they are good…. So….

Looks like they decided you didn’t need the guard then. Mine rusted through and were fixed with a big washer. MOT man says they are also there to stop grease going on the disk when the CV boot splits…..

They could have at least asked you….

Guard rust through. I removed mine. Too expensive a job to replace.

It was probably loose and rattling. £400 for a new one, or remove it for free?

The dust guards rust so the retaining bolts cannot hold them, then they clatter like tin cans on string under the car.

If not replacing them, a large washer is sometimes used to hold them back on.
A fix without taking the guards off is to use JB weld and pin that guard back until it dries.

Hopefully the garage knew what they were doing - have a chat with them - they ought to have told you what they did.

Good luck, Matt
