A way to reduce thefts
Please stop buying used parts from people who aren’t registered dismantling facilities
So many rogues out there splitting motors not registered
You could end up with parts off someone else’s pride and joy on your car

Maybe JLR could de-incentivise the purchase of used parts by not charging extortionate prices for their new parts  2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

This was a particular issue in the Defender market. I used to go to LR shows and so often you would see some very dubious people selling parts and thinking it was highly likely these were from a stolen Defender, yet the irony is the very same people complaining about Defender thefts were more than happy to snap up a ‘bargain’ part at the show.

Totally agree that we all need to be ensuring we are only buying parts from reputable companies.

Although with Range Rovers (unlike Defenders) I think the stolen ones are mostly disappearing abroad?

When I rebuilt my Defender I marked every part with Smartwater so if it had ever been stolen and dismantled there was some chance that parts could be traced back to the culprit.

Parts supply is definitely part of the theft issue - whenever one of the police forces posts a picture of a “chop shop” or containers of cut-up cars, there’s a common theme.

WOW......not sure now my FFRR is a good option but where can I get a square OBD plug?

Odd when you think that you can buy a sausage in the UK and if it's dodgy they can trace it back to the individual porker that it came from and from there the full lineage of the wee squealer back generations.

Why on earth can they not trace the serial numbers of major car items back to there original source, I bet they can, it's probably that they just don't want to put in the effort or share the database.

Just my opinion from aged moaner.
