first thought would be the fuse, second would be to take the tailgate inner panel of and have a look at the wiring..panel is very easy to get off.

Doesn't your display a light error when you startup and get out? I know when my i put LED's in mine the bonging was constant untill i put the ones with resistors in. That might indicate something more than a duff bulb. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Hi Scarey thx for the reply
I have taken rear trim off and wiring looks to be ok I cannot seem to find a fuse which covers the number plate lights
The wiring looks to also be feeding the upper tailgate latch which is working ok
I put a multi meter across the bulb holder and a get around 6v which I think is possibly to low this is the holder on nearside of boot on the offside there is no voltage

If you only have a maximum of 6v you have a bad connection somewhere.
Have you had a close look at the bulb holders, corrosion of the contacts?
Might be worth using a bit of fine emery on the contact surfaces.
If you do clean them and they work remove the bulbs and smear the contact surfaces with Vaseline before you put them back in permanently.

Contacts look ok nice and clean still only getting 6v out of nearside light socket with the bulb out But nothing when I put the bulb back in and nothing at all from offside lamp holder upper tailgate switch works fine
Sad

Does anyone know if there is a fuse for the number plate lights because I can't see anything relevant in the manual ?
It's know one of these little problems that's bugging me lol

Have you looked at the sticker on the back of the fuse box? Im sure it has more fuse locations than in the manual. I will look at mine tomorrw and see. Currently in work with the wife's car. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Thx Rob I have looked but maybe I just can't see it
I have also checked the net but no luck over on the bimmer forum they talk about corroded lamp fittings but I can see no evidence of this on mine I have also pulled back the rubber boot at the top of the tailgate and had a look at the wires but cannot see any that are damaged
So any fresh input would be welcomed

Many thanks

Jon

dont think it is a fuse ..if it was then you wouldn't get any voltage coming through..as a temporary fix you could very easily run a feed from the side lights to the number plates lights..

Right pretty sure I know the problem after a lot of investigating
It looks like the light control module has suffered some water damage and has blown a chip Censored
This might explain why no fault was registered on the check panel
Looks like I need a new one or working second hand one oh well something else to fix Big Cry
