Hmm. I tend to put two in the back and the other two on the back seats (with covers) where they have to overlap slightly. If doing that the dishes of the wheels should face the rear seats as otherwise they are prone to tipping forward e.g. under hard braking and it is quite unpleasant to get a blow in the back from a tipping wheel hitting the back of the front seat.

just to confirm ,i've had four 21'' wheels/tyres in the back of my l405...[rear seats down] ... - .- -.
