United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Tonga Green
Supercharger Service/ReBuild

The superchargers on the 4.2 are a "sealed for life" unit - you know my thoughts on anything sealed for life...

However there is mention (like in the gearbox) of the procedure for changing the oil in the Supercharger itself - it uses different oil to the engine etc so never gets changed.

Some SC's need re-building after 50-60K, however the screw type SC's are generally described as "bullet proof". That being said, I wondered if anyone had further info on the exact type of SC fitted to the AJv8 and even better if someone has the Tech /WSM info about it? Then I can do further research on the thing - which currently I don't know anything about.

Thanks,

Dan

I thought the 4.2L SC has a Supercharger from the Company Eaton and it is a Roots Supercharger.

Changing Oil is possible and I think it is not so difficult. (I asked this question somewhere but forget where)

check the topix files, there should be something about the oil change for the SC.

You're not wrong, I thought the 4.2 used the twin screw type but as you say it uses the Roots "Blower" which is a relatively basic type.

OK, to answer my own question, they are filled for "the life of the vehicle" but don't declare what the life of the vehicle is - typically though manufacturers suggest 100,000 miles.

What Eaton do say is:

If your vehicle has an abnormally heavy duty cycle, such as racing or towing, you could consider changing the oil at regular intervals such as 20k, 30k, 50k, or 100k miles depending on usage.

Which suggests if you want extended life, an oil change may be a good idea - I would gues at a minimum of every 100K for everyday use but maybe every 50K if you tow with it?
