Same thing happens every year. I don’t have a garage to park inside. The weather drops to -25C or lower, it was -41C with windchill a few days ago, and the RR won’t lock.

Today it was -24C and we needed to go out. I started the RR, turned on the heat and all four heated seats. Let it warm for 15 minutes and drove out. Due to breathing, humidity increases inside and frost forms on the inside of the windows. This has only been an issue in the RR.

The main issue: the doors won’t lock. I have tried both remotes. Seems to be the front doors that have the issue. Unlock fine and soft close works. They just won’t lock. It’s safe at my house and I am not worried about theft. The issue goes away when the temps warm into the single negative digits.

Any ideas, other than moving to where the air doesn’t hurt my face? Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

No key with me and I tried opening each door.

LF: locked
LR: locked
RR: locked
RF: unlocked, alarm went off

I replaced both rear door lock actuators under warranty this year due to the electronic child locks not releasing.

Seems like the RF door lock actuator might be the issue. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

Perhaps ice is forming in the mechanism and jamming it up?

Found that cycling the lock/unlock buttons inside identified three of four doors working correctly.

The RF door will not light the lock button when pressed, but it does cycle the door locks of all door except its own. The M button illuminates when pressed. The soft close works correctly. The issue appears to be the lock actuator.

Now to find the correct part # to help my independent shop with a warranty claim.

@Bora Perhaps you need to get the upgraded Arctic Key Fob (the one with the chemical heat pad attachment)!

Hey Bora, apart from batteries being effected by low temperatures, I have learnt that low temps can also cause transmitters and receivers to wander off frequency. This may have something to do with your issues.

Temp got to -10C and it worked again. Remotes were inside the house. I had the issue last year too. I think the door lock actuator is weak. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

But the fob receiver is in the car and may have been affected by the cold. .... perhaps.

I've programmed the button on the rear view mirror to open the garage. I found that it stopped working at extreme low temp. Perhaps because of frequency shift.

Also, my door locks sometimes act strange at low temps too. Often the mirrors won't auto fold on the first press. I need to unlock and lock again.

When the mercury hit -38C the other day it was quite an experience starting my car. Made also sorts of noises from the dash and I got a weird software error message in the centre screen. The rear suspension dumped air etc. etc. But now it's warmed up, all is good again.

The fob is warmed in my pocket. The second fob was in the hosue the entire time and wouldn't work either.

Sounds like we are having similar issues. Damn fairweather English cars

I have had those issues too when brutally cold. Tons of error codes related to battery voltage when I scan with the Gap tool. Once the weather is warm, the cleared codes never come back. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

Bringing this back…

Independent confirmed what I thought. Faulty door lock mechanism. That’s 3 of 4 so far. Extended warranty will cover it 😁
