United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Range Rover is the correct pronoun, the rest are just aspiring to become one.

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Santorini Black

As I am the 'smart arse' who replied on Insta (interesting way to describe a potential customer!) I thought I might clarify my thinking by reposting the chat in full:

@rangeyparts Vogue is a trim spec not a model… basic…

@simon_lw What would you call a full fat then? A word that encompasses P38, L322, L405 and L460? People tend to use Vogue.

@rangeyparts what would you call my L405 Autobiography then? A Vogue? It’s just a Range Rover - that’s its model name. Vogue is a trim spec. Same as Ford Mondeo comes in L, GL etc. You don’t ’tend’ to hear people calling them a Ford GL.

@rangeyparts you could just say ‘Evoque, Velar, Sport and the standard Range Rover’.

@simon_lw In British usage, people tend to use Vogue. Same as with vacuum cleaners, they tend to use the incorrect term Hoover. Standard is ambiguous; a Sport driver might imagine his is standard too.

@rangeyparts so my Autobiography is a Vogue? Just because something is in use doesn’t mean it’s correct. A Sport owner would know they have a Sport because even Sport owners can generally read 5-letter boot badges…

@rangeyparts I’m happy to stick with the terms used by the manufacturer, speaking of which I assume @landrover are aware you’re using their registered trademark on your imitation wheel centres and you have sought their permission to do so?

@simon_lw Your thoughts are under discussion here: tinyurl.com/4tcby933

@rangeyparts indeed - seems despite you calling me a smart arse (interesting way to describe a potential customer) the majority would agree that simply Range Rover is the best way to describe it, much like Land Rover do. Vogue is apparently ‘just ignorant’. So at the risk of doing your marketing materials for you (I usually charge) your ad could simply read: ‘They fit all 62-63mm genuine parts alloys as used on the Range Rover, Evoque, Velar and Sport’. As you list out all the applicable models below, then there should be little room for confusion. Any thoughts on the trademark infringement question?

Range Rover, and whatever model we've had, P38, L322 and L405, it's been called Rex! So many people do refer to it as a vogue!

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Fuji White

I'm thinking this hasn't quite gone the way intended by the OP. 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.
Previous V8s: BMW 645Ci, P38 4.6, P38 4.0, Merc CL500
Previous others: Honda x1, Volvo x7, Rover x6, BMW x6, Ford x1, Mercedes x2, Skoda x3, VW x2, Renault x2, Citroen x1, Mazda x3, Nissan x1, Audi x3, Kia x1, Fiat x4, Subaru x3, Austin x2, Triumph x2, Jeep x2, Hyundai x2, Lexus x1, Mitsubishi x1, Saab x2... and some others I've forgotten!

Maybe so, but it’s certainly generated lots of interest!

I did think the thread was going to be about something else though - collective nouns. For example like names for collections of different birds: murder, murmuration, conspiracy etc.

An affluence of RR’s perhaps?
An insurance of RR’s?
A superiority of RR’s? 2016 SDV8 AB

I agree. The thread title was somewhat misleading.

However, on the subject of the collective noun for a group of FFs, may I humbly propose:

A 'waft'

A 'luxuriance'

A 'capability'

A 'largesse' 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.

Welcome back to the forum. Thumbs Up

I'm sure you are a big lad, you can take smart arse in the tongue-in-cheek way intended.

I disagree. We've had a mix of opinions. We've gained a lost forum member back

There is, however, one thing I didn't articulate that featured in my thinking. Probably less important than the correct name on product listings is what people actually search for, be the term right or wrong.

Take the Omega Seamaster wristwatch for example. Were you searching for one, you might search for the James Bond Omega, Or Omega Goldeneye. Any SEO-savvy seller might include those terms in his copy. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black
2018 D300 SE Velar in champagne

Since my neighbour described the Fattie as "The fur coat of cars", my suggestion for the collective noun would be "A Contradiction of Range Rovers"

Inspired by another neighbour, who was a LR service manager, you could have "A Stress of Range Rovers"

Or, if you're keen on alliteration like me, you could try "A Recovery of Range Rovers", though that may hit a nerve we'd rather leave alone... Very Happy

It’s a ‘proper Range Rover’ to be proud of in my book so the collective noun would be a pride, unlike a pack of Ewoks or a bling of Sports Wink 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀
2009 3.6 V8 (MY2010) - my first ever diesel! - now also gone Sad
