PAS fluid leak from reservoir

Compliments of the season to one and all. A strange one this: Trying to help my neighbour out. She has had a L405 (2015) SDV8 for a year or so now and two days ago returned home and parked on her drive. The next morning I noticed a good size stain of a light coloured oil on the tarmac under the front nearside. I mentioned this to her, she got her partner to call round and it appears that the fluid is leaking from the reservoir cap area, but it only leaks out when the engine has been running and is then turned off!!! No leak from the cap area when it is at idle or when the engine speed is increased. Any guidance would be gratefully received. Thank you.

FYI, there is no hydraulic PAS on the L405. It's electrically driven and hence no fluid.

Is it's an SDV8, it'll have Dynamic Response and will have hydraulic ARBs. This may be the reservoir you are talking about?

Are you sure it's actually leaking from the cap? Might be worth cleaning the area and keeping an eye on it. Is it filled to between the two lines? They are a bit difficult to see the level through the plastic but you can shine a torch from the opposite side.

It may be worth asking her when the reservoir was last replaced. They are meant to be changed out every 5 years or every 80k miles (whichever is sooner) as there is a built in filter. If it hasn't been changed recently, she may want to just swap it out now.

Part number is LR072550. You can usually pick genuine LR ones on eBay for about £30. Easy enough to change out yourself on the drive Thumbs Up Kev

Kev. That is excellent thank you. I have no knowledge of the L405 engines (only the L322s). Her partner stated it looked like PAS fluid". I have just had a look at the yellow 'cap' and it does have the two opposing arrows and a car on it so has to be the ARB fluid reservoir. I have mentioned your advice and she will arrange to have the item changed as soon as she can get it booked in.

The FFRR site never ceases to amaze me as the most helpful, knowledgeable and friendly car site/forum available. I am on a few other sites they are to say the least, a long way from the FFRR site.

I do miss my FF but will one day get back into one.

Thank you again.

Best wishes for 2024

The system does use Cold Climate PAS fluid though so the identifying of the oil was spot on... Thumbs Up Pete
