2015 SDV8 Front knuckle cracked and separated in Portugal. | |
I was on a family road trip from the Uk to Portugal and last Monday we were driving along a smooth dusty road between beaches on the east coast and at around 40 mph I heard a big bang and lost steering on the vehicle.
I pulled over to have a look and found the n/s upper wishbone had become detached from the hub. I called my insurance and 2 hours later a recovery truck arrived and took me to a garage.
Whilst waiting for the truck I noticed the recall so started a chat with LR customer services who eventually said that they can’t comment on the recall without inspection of the car, I rang the Main dealer in Faro and was told they could not even look at the vehicle for at least 3 weeks. I found a specialist who looked at the car straight away confirming the knuckle had cracked but he could not get the part in a reasonable time and I had a ferry to catch.
I found a dealer in the UK who had the part in stock got my father to collect it and paid for a flight for my daughter to fly the next day with the part.
Im now around £1000 out of pocket, stressed and waiting for the call to say the car is ready, this happened later that day in fairness to the specialist and was given a bill for around 350 euros that I thought was very reasonable with alignment and the speedy turnaround time.
The reason I am telling this is that I have not received any recall and most certainly would have had them examined before a 3000 mile road trip if I had known.
The car is now booked in for the recall on the otherside in January where I then need to fight LR for some contribution to the failure on the n/s
Stay safe!
