Does this seem right?

Just looking at an approved used L405, which will come with the used car warranty but something’s just not sitting right with me.
Got the online service history, which looks fine but looking at the MOT history, it had advisories for worn front disks and worn rear pipes. The next year, it failed for the same items, presumably because they hadn’t been replaced since the last MOT. Other than the fact that this kinda points to a general lack of care, would this not have been addressed during the services?
I’m asking if the warranty is the proper JLR one, where I can take it to any main dealer and have work done but still await a response to that question.
Edited to say it’s a 3l, so I’m being very careful to check the oil changes have been done. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

The first advisory is just that - making the owner aware.
On a service, you can't force someone to have work done, they can take it away at their own risk, against advice. We've had people drive away cars with tyre cords hanging out, brakes metal-to-metal, even broken coil springs. It's their choice - sometimes I wish there was a way of reporting dangerous conditions to VOSA etc. just to stop them endangering anyone else with their stupidity.

If the car is being retailed by a franchised dealer, then the tyres, brake pads etc. will have to meet the minimum specifications - e.g. 4mm minimum tread depth, 5mm minimum friction material remaining, brake discs above minimum thickness by 0.5mm, no advisory items on MoT etc.
Any items that don't meet the specification will be replaced prior to sale (but not always prior to being advertised for sale, if they are still safe to use).

So yes, it's perfectly acceptable to have advisories & fails on MoT's prior to sale - and not unusual.

If it's an 'Approved Used Car Warranty' then it is underwritten by JLR warranty, not the dealer group, if it's a Used Car Warranty, then it will be a statutory six month warranty, covered by whichever dealer group own the one you're potentially buying from.

I see what you mean but as a careful and responsible driver, I find it very surprising that anyone would let their brakes get into such a poor condition that they would fail an MOT. It does make me wonder what other things were neglected that weren’t quite so safety critical.
I also asked about the knuckle recall and it hasn’t been done. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I usually find that a quick look under the seats and in the spare wheel well give a good insight into the previous owners level of care, that and checking the brand of tyres / brakes fitted...

TBH sometimes it's 'giving the appearance of affluence' that matters to some owners, they buy or lease the vehicle at the very limits of their finances but try to run & maintain it on a shoestring - you know the ones... usually have a loud branded keyring that they wave around in public - oh, and vanity plates.

Turns out, after much questioning that the warranty is a “Marshall group warranty”, which doesn’t appear to be the same as the JLR approved used one, despite their ad saying it is. The sales guy told me I could use anyone who used genuine LR parts to do the warranty work once they get approval from Marshalls. Now call me cynical but that kind of scenario fills me with so much dread and uncertainty that they would just refuse.
He then told me that the nearest Marshalls garage is a Mercedes Benz dealer in Blackpool. Censored

I came across the same sort of warranty when I was looking . IMO it seemed like the car had to go to a Marshalls garage and like you there was not one near to me overfinch modified

There's a big difference between an approved used warranty and a warranty from a dealership. Yes they are generally underwritten by the same company but you get JLR support with the approved used and do not on any other used warranty. __

No alan I didn't buy it, I did buy it from an independent dealer who sold it with a six-month warranty probably worth nothing but did not need anyway and the car now has no warranty.
I prefer to just pay rather than argue with a warranty company anyway. overfinch modified

I hear you what you’re saying and I’m not inclined to pay more for something that means nothing but hassle. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
