New to RR - L322 ICE Gremlins

Hi all,

Picked up my first RR this week - it's a late 2005 L322 TD6, and as expected there are a few electrical gremlins for me to investigate and hopefully resolve (factored into the price).

None are deal breakers, and some I may not bother with or will look at alternative solutions/workarounds, but most will hopefully be fairly straightforward...

First up - bluetooth! At first I didn't think it had BT, however when I found the 753 menu it's showing "PhoneTelephoneBluetooth" and also a Venture Cam (which I believe uses BT to communicate with the car?) so I'm assuming there's a BT module fitted which just isn't functioning. Going to investigate this over the weekend and see which module it is - maybe the Nokia, as there's also a phone cradle in the centre console, whether it's something as simple as a loose or corroded connection and then decide whether to replace it or just go with an aftermarket BT receiver into the AUX, which it fortunately has in the rear seat area.Part of me would like to get the original working for completeness and maybe use that for calls so it's integrated and the maybe add an Alexa Auto or similar for music streaming.

The Venture Cam also doesn't power on, however it was just loosely slotted into the cradle so may just not be charged or, more likely, the batteries are shot. Doubt this is something I'll have much use for, so definitely not a priority fix.

When in the 753 menu I found 2 codes showing - B01025 Rear Video Input Failure and B100E25 TV/RSE input failure. Wondering whether the first relates to the reversing camera, as there's currently no output on this - one I'll definitely be exploring as the camera would be useful to have working. Not overly fussed about the RSE, but will explore in case of an easy fix. I believe one of the rear screens works fine for DVD playback but potentially not the other (previous owner definitely used one, but hadn't tried to get the other working when it didn't). Not in any way bothered by TV, and assuming it's an analogue tuner anyway, so will likely just forget about that.

The parking sensors aren't playing either, so will make it a priority to get either those or the camera (hopefully both) sorted, as useful for parking such a big old bus. No investigation done yet, but other posts and Youtube videos suggest it's often one dud sensor which knocks the system out, so fingers crossed that'll be the case - what's the betting it'll be one that's awkward to get to!

Mechanically it's absolutely sound, with lots of history and some big jobs done inc a full auto box refurb, timing chain and recently had all turbo hoses done. Cosmetically pretty spot on for the age, with no nasty rust issues, so looking forward to a few more years on the road.- and getting my hands dirty finding my way around everything as the jobs inevitably come up.

I'm trawling through all of the old threads on these issues, but if anybody has any pointers for quick and easy checks which may resolve any of them and save me unnecessary agro it'd be appreciated. Smile

Thanks!

Thanks. Smile

It is indeed the touchscreen.

Everything else on the system seems to be working fine, sound is great on the radio and navigation seems to work - well, I've not tried actually navigating but the map centred on my home address when loaded. 2005 L322 TD6

I never had one of those, my TD6 was earlier. I know yours uses a MOST fibre network for the communication bus and sometimes the Bluetooth modules fail. What I’m not sure of is if they offered Bluetooth if there was a factory fitted phone in the car, but others will know better.

Maybe you need to read fault codes for the other bits.

The good old British weather isn’t giving me much chance to play today, however have checked and confirmed there’s a BT module, and it’s a Nokia as suspected.

Taking it out will have to wait until the rain stops as I’ve no garage and got drenched in the 30 seconds it took to open the tailgate and flip down the panel 🙈😂 but at least I know it’s there, so assuming not just a connection issue then I’ll whip it out and search eBay for a working one.

Not faffing with the sensors and camera in the wet, so that’s a tomorrow job!

Well that’ll be why the BT isn’t working! 🤦‍♂️

Looks like the unit went faulty and someone took it out the fibre loop and joined the fibre ends to keep the rest of the system working.

Apologies for the double post, my phone had a ‘moment’.

Yep, new unit now on order from eBay, so hopefully back up and running next weekend. 2005 L322 TD6

Cancel it and get the later one - better all round. It needs a small wiring alteration but is otherwise plug & play.

That’s the one I’ve ordered, found lots of mentions in past threads so took the advice. 😊 2005 L322 TD6

Although, they're virtually no use & you've said it's not a priority, the Venturecam probably doesn't work due to knackered rechargeable batteries.

Even when working they don't seem to be detectable as a Bluetooth device via a mobile phone, so they may communicate via RF rather than BT.

The later BT units are much better than the Nokia units, a good decision Very Happy Paul,
