Good afternoon, folks. Recently purchased a 2014 L405 RR 5.0 SC Autobiography, and I have been absolutely thrilled with it (having previously owned and enjoyed two V8 petrol L322s, I knew I'd like the car!)

However, the TCS (see attached picture for reference, not mine) has decided it no longer wants to allow the selection of gears, and is stuck in Drive. No amount of jiggery-pokery on the part of my mechanic has managed to free it up, and all roads point to replacing the TCS unit.

My tech (non RR specialist) is struggling with finding a removal and replacement guide, and is concerned that if he's too ham-fisted with trim removal, he'll scratch my piano black wood. Yikes!

This leads me onto my three-part question:

1) Has anyone replaced their L405's TCS, and if so, did it get documented anywhere? Would really love to see that.
2) Does the replacement TCS need to be coded to the car, or is it just a case of binning the old one and plugging the new one in?
3) Does anyone have a working TCS unit for sale? New or used/refurb, I'm not fussy.

I repaired one in a friend's, and ours a couple of years ago due to not raising properly occasionally. I had a used one in the car while I serviced ours and it worked without coding etc.... although I suspect like most things there was probably a software update available.

The instructions are in the Wiki manual under FLOOR CONSOLE UPPER SECTION. It is really well made and put together, very little chance of scratching anything. It is mainly screw's for the piano black trims.

Our's was just a slightly worn plastic gear which was replaced with a metal one and everything re greased, has been fine for years since.

The lock for the gear selection is also from memory fairly easily serviced, it has a little actuator motor on it and a fairly simple mechanism. If it has not raised / lowered properly then potentially it could get stuck into P / N / R / D as it releases when it is in the correct location.

In recent days, my mechanic has been in conversation with a local LR specialist, who it looks like may be willing to refurb the busted TCS unit in my car. I have an extended warranty, so should be covered by that.

Hoping this will be the solution, as I am told a new part is on 8 month backorder!
