Centre Propshaft Bearing

Hi all,

I’m getting a low drumming noise under load on my 83k 4.2sc. I was thinking it could be the centre prop shaft bearing so got underneath and had a look. It doesn’t move but all the pictures I’ve seen of a replacement part do not have the gap around the metal brace and the rubber around the bearing …has mine been a centre prop shaft bearing too long ?? Thanks

It looks like a gap but the rubber is just thinner there, you can't see at that angle is all. Yours doesn't look too bad, if there's very little play its OK. The CV joints either end of the prop and the UJ just behind the centre bearing can seize but very difficult to check with it in the car.

Is the noise also a vibration, similar to going over a cattle grid?

Does it happen when you hit 40+mph under load and do the revs fluctuate? If so it could be the torque converter 3.6 TDV8 Java Black
