Air suspension leak

Hi all

I’ve got a dreaded leak from front near side. Garage suspected the bag so one on order and the warranty’s company has pre approved it. However… I’m not convinced it’s the bag.

A couple of days after it first sank, it lifted again and stayed there. Not it’s sunk again and lifts slowly but not high enough.

I jacked it up to see if I could see/feel a leak. When it’s in the air, and the suspension is ‘normal’ height, the bag is solid - no leak.

When I lower the car again, there’s a hissing sound.

Could the be the valve block? Is that somewhere around in the front near side wheel arch? Tym

If it sticks, force it. If it breaks, it needs replacing anyway.

It could still be the bag, if possible put the car in off road height and investigate further / soapy water spray test etc.
The front valve block on mine ( 2006 ) is under the offside wheel arch liner, in the rear of the wheel well.

I had the car up, at the time it was holding. Feeling around where the pipe is and suddenly I heard the air escaping. That’s why I wondered if there was a valve or something in the wheel arch as I can find where it’s coming from atm.

On top of this, my 3 tonne trolley jack broke, so waiting in a new on next week that’s got a higher lift. Tym

When it’s not under the weight of the car, the bag goes solid when the compressor is on. Tym

… and to add to the confusion, I was in the supermarket car park this evening and she levelled out perfectly. Stayed at ride height all the way home and remains there 3 hours later. Tym

Update: it’s the bag. Bought a new jack and managed to find a puncture. Temp fix with superglue and gaffer tape until it’s replaced on 20 July. Tym

Sorted, well nearly, interested to hear if superglue would fix it, even temporarily, the pressure is pretty high and I would have thought it would get blown straight out....

Did it work at all...?? Pete

24 hours and 40 miles later it seems to be holding. I could put my finger over the hole in the bag and stop it leaking so it must have been very small. At full height it didn’t leak, probably due to the pressure it put in itself and sealed the hole? I put tape over to mark the spot, but couldn’t actually see a hole. Smeared CA glue over the area then put some gorilla gaffer tape over the glue and smoothed it out. Not going to risk altering height as I just need it to hold until 20 July when it’s replaced under warranty 😉 Tym
