td6 2003 air in transparent fuel line; 5 way valve function

My l322 td6 2003 getting air in the transparent fuel line on the engine side.
CHecked the Passenger side pump and it is ok.
We bypassed the 5way tube for the feed and now it runs.

The only question i have is what is the consequence of bypassing the feed on the 5way pipe / valve?

We now have a direct feed and all returns are connected

Anyone an idea why the returns and feeds are crossed in the 5 way pipe?
