Just as a thought, wife’s car got rear ended & they were going to write it off & pay way below what a replacement would cost. Just check the small print on your insurance ‘cos I’m sure it’s worded similar to ‘like for like’. They offered £6k & a replacement was nearer to £10k, in the end they repaired it. I bombarded them with Auto Trader adverts which they didn’t like, they use “Cap” valuations which differ to AT. May not help you get the Westie saved but may get you a few more dollars. Argue like hell with ‘em!😁 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

An impact like that on a 'normal' car could have a much worse outcome for the driver - much worse. This is a happy outcome if you look at it like that and a reminder to everyone who worries about running costs that they and their loved ones are in a safer place if another vehicle hits them than many other vehicles that are cheaper to run. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

I guess it depends on how far you want to go with this. The sill may well be pushed in, but has it affected the alignment of the wheels? Because if it hasn't then this is probably repairable using parts from a reputable dismantler. If you decide to take the right-off value then please fight like hell for a decent settlement, I hate insurance companies with a passion, they exist purely to make money (yes, I know all companies do, it's just the underhandedness of insurance that irks me) and they do that by avoiding paying out or minimising their liability. Unless you are going to keep it until it rots into the ground you will loose money repairing it as it's future value for a sale or trade-in will be dramatically reduced after such a repair. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

I would get a second estimate on that damage. As from the photos, I would question any A post damage.

Stress to the A frame could well have been caused by the impact load on the door and its hinges that are bolted to it? |

Hold out for the market value of a like for like replacement. The ombudsman has a definition of market value which is helpful if the insurance company offers you less. Gather some advertisements of same age / mileage vehicles to support your valuation.

A selection of adverts on Autotrader will help as evidence. Luckily the asking prices are high a the moment and these supply is short. This not being a lot of use for buying another but it should help with maximising your ins payout. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

This is why, after being similarly bitten by a no-fault write-off of SWMBOs car we both have gap insurance. For a few hundred quid for four years it's a no-brainer for me. Standard insurance policies are not fit for anything, the whole thing is a sham.

Part of the issue is not so much the repair cost as the cost of providing courtesy cars for an undefined timescale. With the ongoing issues of getting spare parts, even small trim pieces can delay repairs for weeks, the timescale for doing a proper fix can stretch for weeks.
