ADBlue problem.....

Hi Chaps.

I seem to have developed an issue with the DEF system on the car.

I got a bong saying incorrect DEF quality. Which seems quite plausible as I never really need to topic up and if the garage do it when servicing it then they will just be adding to old fluid.

So I've drained the tank, and filled it up with 15L ish of new fluid. It's yet to reset the level in the service menu, I suspect it might do that in its own time.

I am still getting the same incorrect quality error. Reading in the WM it says to re-prime the system with the LR diagnostic tool. I don't have one of these, is there another way of doing it?

ta. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

been out for a drive and I now have the old 500 miles left until doom message too.

Doesn't seem tone resetting, will see how it is in the morning after its had a think.

I will pull the injector off and see if it's clogged up. Will probably replace it, but as I haven't had to buy a part for ages Im finding getting part numbers very frustrating.......

LRparts.ru doesn't list any anymore and the other microcat pages don't seem to either... Big Cry Anyone out there know the part number for a DEF injector for a 2016 4.4SDV8. LR134712 seems to come up but so does 711 and 710.....

Edit. Well I broke that.....ish. Have got the injector off. looks pretty clean, but in the process broke the clamp bolt, so I can't put it back on as it's sheared in the clamp. will have to order a new clamp and bolt....FFS

have cobbled it back together with a nut and bolt, new clamp on order. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Have drained a bit out this morning, not made a difference. Taken it for a run to Nottingham and Back. Still no difference.

If I pull the hose off the pump should I see DEF squirting out with the engine running. I’m assuming so. At the moment it’s pretty dry on the pump outlet? Suspect pump? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

not sure if this is relevant to yours Mark but the second day of ownership of my SDV6 i had an engine light come on and it turned out to be the NOX sensor which was faulty....dually replaced under warranty and all was well..

apparently these sensors can be cleaned rather than replaced.. ... - .- -.

Have you had it on a diag machine?

For a quality issue, there was a PCM software update, otherwise, it may just need resetting after the drain/refill

Put it on my reader and it didn’t give any codes, you may be right Mikey in which case Stratstone can do that.

My reader is only a cheapie, and on the back of this I have ordered an Autel one (not wanting to start a reader debate i have several different brands/vehicles/piles of junk which I can use it on) which will let me do more! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I think I’ve only gone and fixed it….. looks like it was actually bad add blue in there. Which I suspected could be the case.

So the Autel arrived today. Seems a good piece of kit and more importantly had the functions to interrogate and reset the Adblue systems.

There were a few fault codes relating to the Nox sensor, which is probably because the system was adblue was locked out, various codes relating to the adblue pump being open circuit, again probably because of it being locked.

First I asked it to prime and test the system. which it did and there were no issues.

I then asked it to reset the DEF quality indicator, both of which have their own buttons. And run you through what to do.

Then used the level function to top up the Add blue to the correct level and used the tool to reset the able trip, again another button…..

No more you are going to be locked out in 400 miles messages, took it for a run and all seems good….👍🏻

My man maths says the tool was £350….. As it’s under Warranty still, I was going to send it to LR and it was booked in on Weds. but their base diagnostic is now £198….ffs….. then they would want to drain and refill and reset. Which would no doubt be another couple of hundred… so apart from the cost of the new Adblue I’m about cost neutral. And I’ve got a diagnostic.🤣 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
