4.4 TDV8 Restricted Performance

Hi All,


My car is intermittently going into restricted performance mode.

My MAP sensor is clean and I clean at least monthly using MAF cleaner.

There is no sign of a leak via the 4 doughnuts albeit I have only had a quick visual look.

NS Turbo Actuator was replaced a few 000 miles ago with a new one.

It doesn’t go into restricted performance mode when you rev to 3000 which I do regularly to keep the second turbo in regular use.

It only seems to happen when I rev beyond 3500 to 4000 revs and even then it’s not always.

Can anyone point me in the right direction and advise if it’s a DIY or specialist job.

Inlet manifold? do a HIGH pressure smoke test.

Later models had an uprated manifold as the previous one couldn't take the boost of 2 turbos apparently.

It’s a 2012 if that helps re the comment about later models having an updated inlet manifold.

I do have a Gap tool which I purchased on here 3/4 months ago, haven’t got around to buying the license and using yet!!

I will buy the license and report back here for a steer on what to look for.

2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Max power is at 4000 rpm
Max torque 3000 rpm
Between 3-4000 rpm, the engine is incredible

You can use this car without exceeding 2000 rpm, as there is so much torque available from 1500rpm
But such a waste IMO

I rarely take it beyond 3000 RPM, maybe once or twice per month. I think it’s important to give the car a chance to stretch its legs once fully warmed up. Being an old girl I am very smooth with all inputs so the run to 3500/4000 RPM is done progressively so as not to put unnecessary strain on her. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Santorini black ivory leather

Mine gets up there occasionally when I'm wanting maximum acceleration overtaking in a short distance. Unfortunately speed limits mean that the run is very short-lived.

The last few times it’s happened it cleared itself following pulling over and turning off the ignition. I do have a OBD reader that communicates with Torque and this shows no stored fault codes. The same reader correctly diagnosed a faulty turbo actuator a year ago. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Santorini black ivory leather

I agree but the issue is where the hell can you use that oomph without hitting the legal speed limit 3 seconds after stamping on the fun pedal !. Just overtaking an artic on an A road means you nearly hit 100 by the time you get past , you have to be really careful overtaking 3 with a caravan on the back !!!
