United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Barolo Black
Overfinch TDV8 Two Tone Special

Hello all,

I've been meaning to contribute some content here for a while however with moving house, 3 kids, getting married and starting house renovations have left me a little thin on time.

So the story starts with me leafing through Copart and spotting this, a 2007 TDV8 L322. After a moment of madness I won the bid and its mine, because you know, its a LR product and like a fat kid in a sweetshop I cant help myself and just have to have it for reasons I'm yet to discover.

Its going to be a long term project and a keeper so I'll add more as and when it turns up..... to be continued....

Is it gloss or emulsion..??

Do you have a plan for it's removal..??

I do have to say whoever did it had a bit of an artistic flare..... Laughing Pete

Some good responses so far....

So its landed and being true to Range Rover form its showed its arse straight off the bat. The driver said it drove on truck fine however when he came to drive it off the battery was flat and wouldn't start. The driver didn't have a jump pack, I was at work so he sat for 45mins charging the battery somehow from the recovery truck. It still wouldn't start but had just enough life in the battery to release the handbrake. After blocking the road and him letting it roll off onto my drive I now have it in my possession. I'm mega happy that I have another RR and thankful we didnt need to do use the emergency release for the handbrake.

So far so good but bloody hard work to remove. The tools of attack are, plastic edged scraper, paint thinners and patience. A lot of patience....if this had been anything other than a Land/Range Rover it wouldn't be getting saved!!

The plus points are ;

Its mega straight down both sides
Has the adventure cam
Overfinch floor mats
Overfinch door inlays
4 good Scorpion Verde all round
its an L322 Very Happy

Bad points;

White gloss paint
Someones tried to nick the rear spoiler so need to order clips
Cracked real lamp unit
Missing fog light surround
Privacy tint (Not my jam, all clear glass all the way)
Backs of the sills (not completely peppered but enough to leave a taste that displeases me Laughing )

I'm happy but have my work cut out. Theres a Censored ton to do on top of the standard L322 stuff so things like oil's and filter changes etc... I'm sure there'll be surprises along the way when I start getting into it. The aim is to slowly go through it bit by bit but for now paint removal and hope it comes off.

The previous owners clearly had champagne tastes with lemonade pockets.... looks like its been a school run car as theres pics of there kid still in the back and what looks to be lots of toys and bits of general Censored . Interestingly theres a letter in from a debt collection agency chasing them for a bus gate fine on a Tesla Model X Laughing

Havent heard it run yet so lets pretend thats going to be fine Rolling with laughter

So,

regarding the paint ... ive used a product called X-Tex to remove artex from ceilings ... however, i've also spilled it on gloss paint when using it, and after being left a while, its completely softened the gloss such that when wiped its stripped the gloss paint off back to bare wood. Its easily the best substance I've ever seen at stripping gloss.

I think you *might* be able to use it on the gloss paint on the car, and it not affect the car's original factory paint. I would definitely try some left on an inconspicuous area of factory paint to be sure first ( cause I'm not trying for you on mine )

It comes like a wallpaper paste and you brush it onto surfaces, leave for a while ( I often cover it with cling-film to to damp ) and the substance has enzymes which break down things like artex, but doesn't attack plaster. For the likes of your paint, it might soften the paint to the point it is easily scraped or even wiped off with a few attempts.

A method like that would be far easier and less likely to scratch damage the underlying paintwork. V8 or else ...

If it's 'domestic' gloss interior paint a hair dryer may well soften it enough to make scraping it off easier as the automotive paint will be designed to withstand higher temps and be applied in a paint oven. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Ooo X-Tex looks like it could work. Thank you for that! The thick parts are still nice and soft so are easily scraped off however the snail trails are pretty much welded on so take a lot more effort and time to remove so think this is going to be a slow burn at getting it off which is fine.

The hair dryer doesn't seem to have enough heat but I've had a dig around and found my heat gun which works good at 'loosening' it's dried wet gloss grip!

So it's been on trickle charge all night and after getting in from work like a kid at christmas I couldn't wait to get in and turn the key......I'm a very happy bunny, turned the key, a small wait for the glow plugs to turn off and first crank it started and started well. No smoke, not anything other than a whisper quiet 3.6 sat ticking over.
Gave it a few mins for it to idle and get some warmth into the engine and put on my brave pants, stuck it in drive and took it down the road. There's no knocks, bangs, farts or anything so I'm double happy with it. Everything seems to work and no warning lights. Strongly thinking about putting the lottery on tonight.

You really do forget just how good these things really are, after driving 'normal' cars and getting into this, even if it is 16yr old my god it still feels like a quality product and the woft ability is past the post.
