No idea. From my experience ghost installers love Ghost and ghost installers who have had a problem in the past say Scorpian is best. But I was just giving the info on who made the Scorpian x product.

There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer as to whether they are can injection resistant so I'm going ahead anyway so at least I'll know I've done the best I think I can, in conjunction with my other devices. Just going to find out if there is a significant difference between them in current draw with ignition off then make a decision as to which one.

I thought I would be immune from serious theft attempts with an older higher mileage car, but it seems not, based on some recent thefts close to me.

My Car is in for a warranty issue, I specifically told them, and they wrote it on the job card.
"It has a Ghost 2 fitted, it's in service mode, if you go above 32 mph for 10 mins, it will not start again.

Yes you guessed it, they forgot and they had to call me, they, the JLR techs had no way to bypass the Ghost. I had to intervene.
You would think with all their Bus devices they could easily inject a code to bypass/neutralise the Ghost protection. Think again.

I would definately put one on my next Bus vehicle. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

There is a potential official solution: encryption. Encrypting all the Can bus communications between the modules would nullify the existing threat overnight, but it's not a simple fix.

How it would work is explained quite thoroughly in the article someone posted earlier, but the main issue with this solution is that it requires everyone in the Canbus design and manufacturing ecosystem to participate, which will take time and effort before it becomes a reality.

The 'Ghost' is easy to bypass, dealers will not do that as it's easier to ring for the sequence and there is no 'but you uninstalled it, you owe me!' to deal with. I don't understand why people bring their cars in with the immobiliser in restricted mode, especially for diagnosis - it just adds a layer of uncertainty. Several times we've specified that the immobiliser needs to be disconnected before we'll carry out any diagnostics.

Personally I have a Meta immobiliser (with bluetooth tags) and a manual switch doing something with the brake pedal function. between them the engine won't crank, or if they find the switch, it'll crank but not fire... The parts cost me £130.

Interesting, what is your source of information?

Surely there is at least 1 press release that can confirm this claim? Specifically interested reports on facelift 2018+ L405 Range Rover's with the latest up to date Bus architecture ?

Do the L405 2018+ and L406 use Flexray ? 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

My 'source' is first-hand knowledge as I've been employed as a technician by several dealerships, including JLR. Granted, where I have had to uninstall or bypass immobilisers, I have the luxury of time, its rare to not be able to track down one in less than ten minutes though.

Flexray etc. Will not 'save' you, the CANBus injection is to a subsystem which is then rebroadcast from a trusted node (gateway) on Flexray etc.

Are you aware how Ghost 2 immobilisers are fitted? They can be fitted anywhere in the car, they are fitted into the CANBus wiring and not traditionally a button, accessible from driver seat etc it could be many hours to find the splice etc a luxury no thief has. Along with UWB technology getting in and disabling the alarm is enough of a challenge, then to discover it's not just the standard factory immobiliser thats in play. Time to move on.

Its without doubt true, an immobiliser is a layer of protection and is not a magic device that will stand up to any thief. A sufficiently motivated and skilled thief, given enough time, will get past any security system, be that steering locks, alarms, immobilisers, tracking, hidden switches.

Most thief's dont have the time, and dont want to make any noise either, they will move on to the next vehicle.

I still have not seen one report of a 2018+ L405 thats been stolen with Ghost 2 fitted so guess we can all draw our own conclusions on that front. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

They can (no pun intended) be fitted anywhere, but many approved fitters put them in the place recommended by Ghost

One of our trade customers is an installer. He says that once you know the exploits of the system, it's an easy workaround to disable it

You keep saying that - are you on commission?

Of course I'm aware of how they work (probably more than yourself), how they're fitted and how to find them. Most installers are on a price and will do a 'quick fit' in their favourite location on a particular vehicle, there's also other clues which anyone with a sharp mind and a good pair of eyes (and a torch!) will pick up in seconds.
If I was in the aftermarket equipment 'game', I'm sure there would be common unwritten workarounds for most if not all immobilisers. The best anyone can hope for is to slow 'them' down so they move on hopefully without trashing your car in the process. A bit like putting a house alarm box where it's visible will (hopefully) make them move on to your less well protected neighbour.
