How much free play in the transfer box is normal

Hi All,

I am still trying to track down why I get a thump in the drive train when I first select Drive or Reverse.

I jacked up one rear wheel and there is about 20 degrees of slack. The prop rotates in sync with the wheel so it is in the transfer box or the gearbox.

Is this amount of movement normal ?

In the photos you can see the amount of movement from the position of the Pirelli name on the tire.

Cheers

Thump could be motor mounts.

Click could be an axle CV joint or propshaft u-joint.

Unsure of free play you are speaking of, but there will be some. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

I enlisted an assistant to put it into gear whilst I eyeballed the engine. There was a bit of movement but no more than I would normally expect. 2016 AB SDV8 Barolo black
