my total TDV8 running costs to date

may be of some interest to those thinking of dipping their toe into L322 ownership.

Bought my 2011 car (off e-bay Shocked ) with 83,000 miles in Dec 2017. Previous owner bought used at 25,000 miles in 2014. His bills for servicing and fault repairs (only minor stuff, brakes etc) was £4,000 over 3 years.

My running costs to date (not inc. fuel/MOT etc) just parts, fault rectifying, servicing and tyres.

Total paid in 5 years: £6890 (inc Vat). Includes tyres which were £1300 for puncture repairs/replace and replacement for old/worn.

My major bills were for replacing inlet manifold (£1600) and finding DPF flaw (no DPF fault, just thermostat housing damaged by previous garage giving false readings!).

Mileage now 121,200 having just completed a flawless/faultless 1600 mile round trip to the Alps.

My yearly ruining costs are £12k - tax, fuel (20k miles PA), insurance for central london and use for business, repairs and ULEZ. A 'normal' car would cost me £6k less but cost me a lot more to buy so the savings are not immediately apparent. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

wow, my fuel costs are c. £12,000 over 38,000 miles! plus insurance at c. £1250, tax at c. £5,000 for 5 yrs.

Luckily my FFRR is ULEZ free in Bristol (for some strange reason - other friends' later (2014) BMWs are not! Shocked)

If you are a resident you can get an exemption in Bristol unlike London. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

To be honest, its never been something that I've tallied up over all the years of LR ownership. Not that its being blazé about it, more that I'd rather not know! V8 or else ...

I have a spreadsheet which I variously manipulate to either convince me that I should keep it or sell it. It's amazing how you can work it to give you the answer you want....
Once you start adding things like finance costs, depreciation and capital outlay from your savings the old L322 is a sensible option compared to buying something newer that costs less to run. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

lucky you

bought 2012 4.4TDV8 in oct 2021 with 165000km (100000miles)
My running cost since are 7700€ for 16 months and 15000km... Big Cry
oil filter cooler, front and rear dampers and bags, DFP and EGR. = the whole shabang

But I love the ride and I'm hoping to see the end of it now (I hope I'm not jinxing it...) "it needs some intelligence to undestand you may not have enough"

i have the 2012 diesel, and is at 210,000 miles..mine came with land rover service history, to 185k, and with new brakes and shocks. in the year or so ive had it, ive had a water pump, and a 'triple set' of air con compressor, alternator, and pulleys/belts set. in one go.. i too will soon drop into the ulez zone in the summer, but am keeping her, as to buy a better car, and dodge the ulez, will cost me a huge amount, and come with fast depreciation. if i swap to identical car but with petrol, my dash readout will half the fuel consumption figures im currently getting, and i have no use for the slight extra power... i figure that my car is sort of slowing down on its depreciation run. so im not losing any money on it, and its not had any nasty bills... as i do the maintenance work myself. i do like the car, its a total pleasure to drive, so i'l be taking the ulez hit, every time i drive it. which to be honest, is about every other day.... and maybe i can plan and combine some journeys better on the same day etc. i ask myself, what could i switch to and always think the l322 is the perfect car for me. so its staying.


had a quick look at a comparison of a vauxhall astra 1.2 petrol, new at 18,000 quid, and the electric same vehicle, at 32,000..... so how many miles/charges do i have to do to start to save money, against the petrol. which is also ulez free.
i'm sticking with low cost cars, and absorbing typical running costs into my yearly expenses.
