Newbie with a question!

Hi guys, first post so please go gentle!

Looking for a big comfy adventure vehicle to replace my 2007 Defender 90, which is now proving a bit too small for missus + new dog. I’ve always loved the L322 and now discovered the 4.4 tdv8 models are within reach without bankrupting myself. One of the key user requirements for me is having a decent amount of useable room in the back. My previous full size tourer was a disco 4 that I loved to bits, I could lay the rear seats totally flat and sleep in the back with more room than in my 2 man tent! I’m really hoping that the rear of the L322 is a similar kind of set up? Could anyone shed some light on whether this would be possible?

It’s not quite as practical as the Disco 4…. Less square rear and the rear seats don’t fold flat. Might need to unbolt them to be comparable. That said, it’s not small, and more comfortable and faster/more economical. Any L322 cam be looked at for rear space comparison.

The seats go fairly flat but the space is nowhere near as good as a D4. Why not get a D4? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Practicality wise the D4 wins but while the 4.4 TDV8 appears not to have many major mechanical maladies, the Discos all have the threat of a snapping crank. Is it as big an issue as it's maybe suggested online? Perhaps not. But it is a major failure rather than an irksome but otherwise easily resolved one. The driving experience also doesn't really compare IMO, as while sportier, it just lacks the 'it' factor of the RR. All IMO of course.

there are some great youtube sites about the lion engine and why the cranks snap and improvements that can be made such as a modified oil pump (Has more strengthening to prevent cracking) & Oil use 10w40 over the 5w30 specified by land rover. But, and it is a big BUT the other reason is some of the cranks fail due to poor quality at the point they were manufactured and if you have one of those at some pont it WILL fail and you have no way of identifying.
As far as i know when ford were testing the units the 1 in 10 units that failed always happened outside of any warranty so it was deemed acceptable!! 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current
