United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Ipanema Sand
Restricted performance Gearbox

I had some remedial work to do on my car after an MOT fail, I renewed both lower control
arms, and it passed the retest, a couple of days later driving along about 10mph the gearbox
started to change in and out of gear.
I stopped and restarted the car and all was well after about 2 milesl it repeated this behaviour and
went into the restricted performance mode.

The codes I got are listed below, is there any way to see individual wheel speeds with the iid?
or can someone point me in the right direction to determine which speed sensor is faulty?

PCM-Engine TDV8 3.6L

P0501-00 - Vehicle speed sensor A range/performance (2B)

TCM-Transmission 6spd

P0501-81 - Vehicle speed sensor A range/performance - Bus signal/message failure - invalid serial data received (2A)

Have you got odd sized tyres across an axle or have you changed the tyre size in the IID settings..? Pete

Hi

All tyres are the same, the only thing that I have changed with the iid is to recalibrate the height
sensors

OK, I had that fault code on my old Rangie.. those two reasons can set that fault...

IIRC the rear nearside (UK RHD) speed sensor feeds speed info via the ABS ecu to the BCM etc...

Have a look in the Workshop Manual in the Wiki, top right of this page... Pete

Had a play with the iid and found the wheel speeds in the abs module, they are all reading correctly.
The gearbox was losing drive now as well, same codes when I checked, Turned off the engine then went for another
drive and was all back to normal, just praying that the gearbox is ok

It's a 'P' code so powertrain, ABS will be a 'B' code. The ECM DTC points generally to the composite speed output broadcast on CAN, did you disconnect the battery at any point? or remove driveshafts?
Can you check the steering angle is plausible using diagnostics or the 4x4i screen, the TCM DTC is more specific and indicates the data received is outside of plausibility, so either one wheel is indicating too fast, or the steering angle is wrong for the indicated wheel speeds, there is no defect in the wheel speed sensor outputs otherwise there would be a DTC set in the ABS module, which doesn't care about plausibility (within limits), it just acts on the reported wheel speeds and steering angle.

Go for a slow drive in as straight a line as possible, all wheel speeds should be very similar, turn a corner, the outside wheel speed should increase, moreso on the front than the back.

The car is still doing it, driving along car loses drive revs rise and if you rev it up there is a screeching
sound,
I stopped at a local garage who were not keen at all on taking the car on. They did mention that because of the
work on the front control arms so that the steering angle may be out as mentioned by Phoenix.

Went on iid and recalibrated the steering angle but it still does it. switching it off and on again does allow you
to drive ok for about half a mile then the same happens again,
I will talk to some other garages and see what they think.

Just an update, this turned out to be the transfer case and
luckily for me the garage I took it too had a newly refurbished one lying around
for well over a year as the person who had ordered it had a prang
with his car and never returned for it.
So glad it wasn't the gearbox
