Anyone here running a 4.2 V8 L322? - advice please?!

Hey guys.

I know it goes against the grain of looking to buy a cheap RR - probably asking for trouble here. Anyone any thoughts on the 4.2 engine. Do any of you guys still have one or had one. Any issues or solid I just avoid and head straight for the 4.4?

I have been looking at this one on auto trader - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202203063255611

Seems decent and a bit of info on its service history.

Cheers

Probably the most reliable engine LR have ever used.

I've just bought one with 233,000miles on it, still drives superbly well. 2006 L322 Vogue SE 4.2

Great vehicles allow a bit of cash to flush the gearbox and transfer box and diffs and also expect a bit of corrosion on the rear wheel arches and the sills and you will need to buy a 11D tool for diagnostics then you are good to go

I think the 4.2 is one of the best fatties ever produced, I'm sure you'd love it. What I would worry about are the financials. Its cheap enough to buy and the normal running costs are easy enough to bottom out - you can either afford them or not. The issue is it was a £100k car, its 16 years old and surprisingly complex electrically/electronically and parts can be pretty expensive. If something big goes you could be in for 5 figure fix. Good preventative advice from SandyT should minimise the risks...and mine was faultless for 5 years and 60k miles - but not everyone is as lucky. In Pistonheads terms, its the brave pill. Mike - MPx

Everything Sandyt said but add Supercharger Oil change.

Just as info I do about 15 to 20k a year in mine but I spend circa 3k a year on maintenance but have always over serviced my cars and replace bearings /bushes at the slightest sign of wear. So far never let me down in 12 years Thumbs Up

Looks a pretty decent example. I'd want the dings in the passenger door and lower tailgate taken care of though.
