4.4 MY 2010 / 2011 / 2012

Hi all.
Very much in the market for my first L322. Budget around 20k.
So what would you buy?
Ideally SE / WEST / AB specification.
Should I spend much less ( 13-15k ) then use the rest for preventative maintenance?

Really want low mileage late 2012. Might even pay >20k for the right car. Must have FULL history.
Willing to travel UK wide.

Any sensible colour. Not white though.

How many have you looked at/sat in Steve?

Me for example. I wouldn't want anything less than an AB car! The leather door cards and roof sell it to me...

Second thought... The earlier car usually means the higher spec! So, 2010 4.4TDV8 AB cars will have rear entertainment, surround cameras, adaptive lights, adaptive CC etc etc whereas 2011 MY lost RSE & Cameras & 2012 lost adaptive lights... You may find cars with extras in spec but usually, they are few and far between...

Westminster was a bit of a con in my opinion... Again they took away the spec and then gave you 2007 seats with piping! Go figure... Banging Head

If your total budget is £20k hold back 25% as a contingency fund for repairs. All these cars are now over 10yrs old so I’d ignore the trim level and just get the best one for the money. The ‘stock’ vogue trim is still a luxury car and a lot of the tech in the higher spec models is now quite dated anyway. Full leather is not to everyone’s taste either. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thanks for the replies. Some great advice. My next hurdle is mileage. Often my search is for under 60/70k……..but there are dozens out there with higher miles, which put me off. But if a 80/90/100k example is fully serviced am I wrong to dismiss it?

Low mileage can be a problem if it's just been used for the school run and the gym....
Service history and condition are the main points. At 10+yrs old rust is also an issue as is parts failure due to age alone - AC compressor, belts, oil cooler seals. Hence why whatever you buy you need a hefty contingency fee. The purchase price is not the expensive part of ownership of these cars.... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

.......so maybe search for cars around 15k..........with excellent history and condition regardless of miles. Leaving 5k + in the 'rainy day OMG my Range Rover has broken again'..........and I have only had it 3 months.......!!!!!!!

Also how are you going to use it ? If it's to be a daily driver you need to be reliable and intend to keep long term it will need more ££ thrown at it than something just used for the weekend and / or low miles as a 2nd car. Lots of 'issues' can be lived with in that case. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I currently own a 2 seat sports car. Planning on some long distance touring / camping around Scotland and Ireland in the summer, and trip to the Netherlands. Need more space hence looking for a L322. Always wanted a FFRR...

It will also be my daily, including 3 x a week short commute to work (approx 1200 miles a year for this commute).

So I was looking at getting a V8 petrol Audi S6 a few months ago. My normal annual mileage is pretty low (not including the above touring this year ).

So I guess I could look for a 5.0 AB S/C???

Or am I losing the plot?

Now about 3.5 weeks into L322 ownership. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE.
Firstly you have the best of the best with this forum in terms of input and advice.
Everything I have learnt is from here. And all has been true.

I did so much web research my brain hurt… In the end I went and looked at quite a few.

What did I learn? Like has been said in this thread. Hold back a chunk of change for stuff such as; belts and pulleys, major service, battery (if IID GAP tool throws up errors), bushes, ancillaries, suspension. But unless you are an expert have a specialist look it over. Preferably from underneath…

I liked the SC but the mpg was just nuts. Hence went for TDV8. Personally, I would drive both before making a decision.

Note: I am looking at a bill of £1700-1800 to our TDV8 be as “perfect” as I can.

Do I regret spending over £20k total on a 2011 car? No way. Every time I get in it feels special. It looks a million times better than our GLB 35 AMG and is more plush in every way.

I will keep a budget aside for proactive maintenance and take every bit of good advice on this forum.

Some great advice right there. I know what you mean. I’m obsessed with Autotrader etc. I seem to make a decision about exactly what model, then something changes my mind. Though I do believe head will rule heart and it will be a 4.4 TDV8. I was dead set on a Westminster but have since switched to either an SE or AB. Many many years ago in about 1993 I almost bought a RR classic. Have wanted a FFRR for decades. I believe now is the time. One other thing. I don’t seem to keep my cars very long, so even if I don’t find the ‘perfect’ car I could easily seek out another in a year or 2……..

Also motors.co.uk seems to be a decent aggregator site for vehicles.
-There are also specialist dealers such as : https://www.thevoguecentre.co.uk/

Plus it is definitely worth pinging a “Wanted” ad on the forum.
