Upgrading audio/nav etc

So I have a MY04 FFV8, and it has the usual no sound issue (Amp I guess), but also a missing CD cradle and whole screen goes black when you plug in the nav drive (now permanently disconnected).

I'm planning on keeping for a long time, so I can either fix the current issues, or upgrade to a more modern option, to include phone & Bluetooth music streaming ( I think the system is originally a BMW system).

I've already had a rough price of about £1k for an Android based system, playing Bluetooth music, some apps, Google maps etc etc (as well as fixing sound issue).

I'm assuming that upgrading will mean me losing the 'on screen car computer ' option (mpg etc)

Is the price about right or can I get a more reasonable option?

Also, should I perhaps just look at fixing what I currently have and add a simple Parrot type device?

Cheers

There was a chap called Baris on here who used to repair and upgrade the factory units themselves. He could add an Aux connection for music streaming and Bluetooth phone and digital tv, but it will never be like Car Play or the other modern stuff.

I had a stage 2 amp upgrade on my TD6 and it was ace.

Some folk added android units etc and then moved the old display unit into the glove box so you still had all the old functionality.

Things have no doubt moved on now, it was 2016 when I sold my TD6, and you may find older units cheaper on the internet now, or you might find it’s just not worth keeping the old stuff.

If you wish to fiddle with the units you have for now, losing the sound is possibly either a bad connection on one of the dsp plugs or indeed corrosion of the dsp socket pins due to water ingress.
I lost the sound once over and found that if l wiggled the plug harness on the plug/socket on the top of the dsp unit the sound came back on. I just undid all the plugs from the sockets, sprayed everything with contact cleaner and reassembled.
Everything has been ok for some years.
The blank screen is down to the disconnected satnav unit, all the video comes from that unit. Surprisingly the radio/amplifier unit doesn’t seem to cause many problems.
Undoubtedly the way forward is to replace the head unit and just accept loss of the functions you mention.
To date I just keep putting that decision off.
