Hi,

On parking up Friday afternoon I noticed wisps of steam from the front left wheel arch, along with a 'coolant low' message.
Popped the bonnet and yes, I have a coolant leak. Stripped it down for a better look and the Water Pump is rattling/knocking.

I want to fit a Genuine Part and will probably change the Thermostat housing whilst I'm there so watch this space...

My first port of call is always Advanced Factors but they don't have it listed. Does anyone know who made the original part number for Land Rover ?

Could it be part number 4575902?
The label on the box says made in the UK.

Indeed it is I've been cross referencing part numbers this morning before work and that appears to be the correct Genuine part of the AJ Jaguar Engine in the SC. Gavin

Hi All...advice required...

Last night I spent 2 hours trying to get the viscous fan nut off my 4.2SC will no luck. Can someone please confirm, as per the LR workshop manual that it is a 'normal' right hand thread and therefor undoing it is anti-clockwise (lefty-loosey) when standing at the grille?

From the manual -

Removal and Installation
Special Tool(s)
Viscous coupling spanner
303-1142
Viscous coupling pulley retaining tool

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
For additional information, refer to: Specifications (414-00 Battery
and Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
2. Remove the cooling fan shroud.
3. Disconnect the cooling fan control electrical connector.
4. NOTE: The thread is right handed.
Using the special tools, remove the cooling fan.
Remove the cooling fan assembly."

I have had my fan spanner on it along with heat, PlusGas, a strap on the pulley itself etc etc and it just will not budge. I'm praying the person in there before me didn't cross thread it...

Any top tips to get it moving? Gavin

Hi Gavin - related question, were you able to remove the fan shroud before removing the viscous fan itself?

I want to asses the condition of the various tensioners / bearings / pulleys etc. on mine but can’t see a way, after removing the fixings, to remove the shroud on its own?

Assume the fan was indeed a regular right hand thread, anti-clockwise to loosen per the WM? Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Nice to hear from you.

Its a 'normal' right handed thread, so when looking at the engine from the front your undo it anti-clockwise. Buy those tools too - I wasted hours trying to get the fan undone.

The plastic surround itself is in two parts. The right hand side of it by the air box can be separated just below the air box (remove the airbox for access) once the screw and fan electrics/air quality module is removed. You have to get underneath the front ( remove the undertray) and unclip the rest of the surround from the bottom as well as unclick various coolant hoses.

The fan and shroud have to come out together. Its fiddly but not impossible - just be careful of the air con pipe along the top of the radiator. You can unbolt the Coolant tank and lay it too one side to give access down the left hand side too as there is a click down there holding a hose.
