Tyre size

Hi everyone,

Im considering upping from 255 50 20 109 to 255 55 20 110, is there any reason not to?

The reason I'm looking to do this is because the 55 profile tyre seems more common, not only that, maybe the ride will be improved do the increase sidewall height?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

To add to this,

The tyre I want is 255/55/20 PIRELLI SCORPION VERDE.
It just seem more available in 255 55 20 that it does 255 50 20. Maybe because L405 is 55?

The only possible downside is your speedo will read dead on or even very slightly under the actual road speed but this can be adjusted with a GAP IID tool. Mine came with 255/55 R20 so never been able to judge the effect of an increase in sidewall but it's logical that there will be an improvement as there will from replacing old tyres with new ones. Ah sorry there is one other issue as your spare wheel will be undersized so if you have a puncture you will be very limited as to how far you can drive with a different size wheel across an axle. I bought a full size spare which you can often pick up on Ebay fairly cheap 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Cheers for the reply.

Yes I did thing about the spare. Does a 55 profile tyre fit in the spare wheel well?

What load rating are they on your car please? The 255 55 20 are a 110 and not a 109 like on the 50s.

It just squeezes in esp if you deflate it a bit. The load rating difference is not an issue as it's over 1000kg per wheel. Also check with your insurer if a non standard tyre size is classed as a modification. With mine ( Admiral) it's not and they were only interested in a non OE wheel size which is a bit odd. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Both of those points are good to know. I’m also with admiral.

The reason I asked about load rating is to see if ride was effected at all.

The other tyre option I’m looking at is the Goodyear asymmetric 3 SUV in the standard size. A totally different tyre, I know. I thinks it’s meant for things like the Macan but it has a lot going for it for on road use. I rarely go off road and if I do it’s on a fireroad or field. Hmm.

Do you get any rubbing at all? Even in access mode with full lock?

No rubbing, no issues whatsoever after >20k miles. Loads of people have done this as they buy L405 wheel and tyre sets from ebay from owners who want to upgrade to 21" or 22" rims 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Go with Pirelli ( it's all season not all terrain) - it's designed for the car and you get a 'homogolated' tyre if you tick the manufacturer approved box when ordering them form places like BlackCircles 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Also many prefer the Scorpion 'Zero' all season over the 'Verde' 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I bought some replacement wheels that had 55 profile tyres fitted and they were OK. I then put on some new 50 profile and found them sharper handling and they didn't tram line like the 55 did.
I didn't notice any real comfort benefits from the 55's but I know of other members who think they are better.

For anyone that In interested, I went with 255 50 20 Goodyear Assy 3 SUVs.

I’m very happy with them, they are quiet, steering is immediately sharper, they ride nicely and actually look quite good.

I would recommend them.
