Classic signs of failing blower motor - rapid ticking when cornering to the right. Has now progressed to noisy all the time.
I'll fit a new one myself but what to go for? There's a Ridex one on Buy Car Parts direct for £43 and others for a bit more.
Don't fancy an ebay second hand one, probably as old as mine and just as likely to fail.
