Ok guys, here's the deal.

I have been looking for a nice 05/06 TD6 for a couple of months with no joy, been to see a few, either the spec is wrong, or they just don't look good.

Now, recently started looking at the 4.2 Supercharged model (2006), has everything, love the piano wood, looks great, etc.

So, what do I do?

I drove the TD6 and it felt a bit sluggish, obviously the supercharged felt a lot quicker.

What kind of MPG can I achieve on long runs?

Are the supercharged reliable? any known issues, any problems once the car hits 100k+


Any answers would be greatly appreciated, hoping to close on a deal tomorrow AM and collect the car PM!

p.s. insurance is only a about £150 difference between the two!

I just averaged 20mpg driving 800 miles to the south if France, some heavy traffic but mostly 80mph.

in hindsight i wish i got the s/c...i'm a low mileage user and although the td6 is a good runner with respectable mpg the s/c sounds sweeter and it'll be worth spending a little bit more on fuel......

The problem is, when I drove the TD6 and put my foot down I got a lot of revs and noise, but not much go, was a bit disappointed.

I have a BMW 730d too, which has the same engine and pulls and drives great, and I was expecting it to be similar to that (taking into account the Range is a heavier car).

Looks like the S/C is the one to go for.

Any other views would be greatly appreciated.

I previously had the TD6 FFRR at the time i did like the vehicle , but i then bought the SC and it's like night and day you just touch the accelerator and you are off plus it is a bit quieter

So it's a 4.2 SC from me until i maybe get a 5.0 Litre version  ====================================

Can I just add that the different gearbox's will weigh in a lot to the driving experience??!!! The TD6 from my driving so far of it is a gentlemans cruiser and isn't really meant for some foot to the floor action, just moochig along

Ok, so I am 95% there on the S/C.

I want to close tomorrow am on this deal.

Lets say I keep it for 2/3 yrs, do about 15-20k miles, what will it be worth roughly, are these hard to sell on?

No driven the supercharged, but I've driven the 4.4 V8 and have a TD6. The smoothness and speed of the petrol were lovely, but I tend to think of it as a gentlemans car to waft around in so didn't need the speed. I like getting 30mpg and have another car for hooning. For me if it wasn't the TD6 it'd be spend more and get the TDV8.

Guess I have a car that suits the purpose I bought it for. If you have a different purpose then you'd pick a different car.

Not too worried about speed, I have a car that does 200mph and 0-60 in sub 4secs..

Just want something to waft around in, and getting sick of looking for the right spec TD6.

Not that bothered on the fuel costs.

More concerned about the resale and depreciation, or have these 06 models S/C hit their lowest?

Whilst the TD6 doesn't have very brisk acceleration, it will happily cruise along at 80mph and return a decent mpg for a big heavy car. Acceleration at overtaking speed isnt bad.

I do have a nice nippy coupe if I fancy a brisk drive, but I do enjoy the more sedate feel of the TD6 on a long motorway run.
