With my former BMWs with ZF automatic gearbox it was possible to use N to let the car roll for a longer time.
The same is possible with my 2018 RR. I do that since I got it 2000km ago.

In the BMW forum it was written that this procedure is ok for the ZF gearbox and it does not hurt. This information came from an insider at BMW.

Is the same valid for the RR? I found nothing about that in the German manual.

if the hill is very steep: I stay in gear, maybe shift down and use the brakes
if the hill is steep: I stay in gear, maybe shift down
in both cases the ECU stops sending fuel to the engine as the engine is pulled down the hill by it's own weight.

if the hill is not so steep: the car would slow down saying in gear. But in many cases I want to keep the actual speed.
If I stay on the gas, the consumption is much higher than just using neutral and let idle the engine. This is done in actual double clutch gearboxes automatically and is called sailing. They even go one step further to switch the engine off under certain circumstances.

So the answers in the linked thread are more or less outdated.

ANYWAY:
My question was more related to the fact, that automatic gearboyes can be much more complicated than standard manual boxes. Imagine I am running in Neutral and therefore parts of the drive train are not engaged. certain oil pump is driven by these parts. So I would roll the cars for say 20 seconds without a runnig oil pump. The electronics do not forbid, but the gearbox would run with a higher wear.

Therefore it would be good to get the opinion/knowledge of someone who really knows the internals of the gearbox of the 2018 RR Diesel (not any other brand or car model).

The standstill decoupling feature is new for the 8 speed transmission. When
the vehicle comes to a standstill (with the brakes applied), the converter is
disconnected from the driveline so that only a slight residual load remains.
This further reduces fuel consumption. Pete

Sitting at lights in neutral with the footbrake applied is bad for the gear selector electronics which will lead to premature faiure of the module. This is due to the shift interlock solenoid being powered for far longer than expected which overheats the current-limiting diode that allows the gearbox ecu to determine if the interlock solenoid has gone open circuit. Neutral + brake pedal is expected to be short duration which normally won't overheat the diode that doesn't have a suitable heat-sink to allow for extended use. Either the diode fails or the solder at the joints melts then resets crystalised which is then a high resistance joint, not allowing current to pass to the shift lock solenoid.
